I'll let you know that our pottery is not rustic
Twitter accounts are based in Russia. BlueSky accounts are based in homes with, frankly, too many books, plants, obsolete cables, and pieces of rustic pottery, that could do with a bit of a tidying up, to be honest.

A fun game I play is to search California left-NIMBY posts for any mention of Article 34, the provision in the CA constitution that gives NIMBY homeowners a veto vote over any social housing projects. So far it's like searching for cryptids.

Trump loves NYC. Mamdani loves NYC. I am not terribly surprised.
Trump has said a number of times that you'd be surprised how much he and Mamdani agree on. (Talks again about building housing, lowering rents.)

Trump: "I expect to be helping him, not hurting him."

WHOA. The FBI was/is spying on a Signal chat for a New York immigration court watch group, claiming they were “anarchist violent extremist actors.”

Your reminder that the government is watching and don’t say anything in a big group chat you wouldn’t say on TV.

Even that headline, as bad as it is, minimizes how bad this is. They were also charged with possession of child porn and were planning on raping children.
Gavin and Tanner, planned and trained for nearly a year, legal documents say, in an elaborate attempt to invade a Haitian island, kill its Black men, enslave its Black women and Black children and fulfill their "rape fantasies."

I remember when there was a discussion on Twitter about Shein's manufacturing practices and some apologists invented all sorts of fantastical machinery and technology to avoid facing the more horrifying truth. Reminds me of this comedian's joke.

LA City Charter Reform Commission just voted to recommend expanding the Los Angeles City Council from 15 to 23-31 seats!!

This will be HUGE for reducing the influence of money in our local politics.

Lol YIMBYs literally talk about our incrementalist approach especially wrt beach head legislation.
Me: “This YIMBY policy is very good but changes seem more incremental than transformative”

It is so funny to watch Stancil argue that political narratives drive public opinion on one hand and then argue that public opinion is mostly immutable for housing on the other.
We need to plan for a world where people still do aspire to own a home, have a car, because that seems likely to remain the goal of many/most families. But we can also do that while increasing density, transit, walkability - especially in inner and middle suburbs. (Burn down the exurbs.)

That is literally the lesson of the Holocaust
I'm struck by this clip of former Obama speechwriter Sarah Hurwitz saying Holocaust education has backfired in part because people Palestinians as victims: "They think the lesson of the Holocaust is…you fight the big powerful people hurting the weak people."

I'm no Harris fan but I'm pretty sure she would mop the floor with both Biden and Trump
Trump: "You should've suffered a little while through Kamala. The good news is she had no clue. I want to give an IQ test to Kamala and Biden. Who do you think wins?"

Taking away world cup football from Latino fans in blue cities is bound to work out great in the midterms

Urbanism—the notion that cities are good, that we should build housing in the dense walkable neighborhoods where people want to live, and that urban governance should prioritize city residents’ quality of life over suburban drivers’ convenience—remains a radical political program in America.
One thing that’s so frustrating living in a city center is the pervasive belief among suburbanites that your neighborhood is nothing more than a consumer experience for them and that the city should bend over backwards to ensure they can speed as fast as possible on their way to buy treats in it.

a big runoff last night, in New Orleans:

Calvin Duncan was exonerated after spending *28 years* in prison; he tried to get his own case records from the New Orleans city clerk—but the office dragged its feet.

So Duncan ran to become city clerk himself, and yesterday ousted the incumbent.

Duncan, a political newcomer and former prisoner, defeated incumbent Darren Lombard by a wide margin in Saturday's runoff.

My most woke opinion is that property tax rates should increase the further from the town center you are and agriculture tax rates should be incredibly difficult to qualify for
"my least woke opinion is---"

That's enough. We've had enough people indulging in the "thrill of a little conservatism", as a treat. Of considering reactionary thought to be a salacious and taboo in a world descending into reactionary mania.

Give me your MOST woke opinions. We're bringing it back.

In fact, much of the SoCal coastal plain could see 2-4+ inches between Thu & Mon. That is pretty impressive for a Nov storm in this part of the state! In fact, at least localized flash flooding (esp. near recent wildfire zones & in other susceptible spots) is certainly possible.

The better world of my youth? My youth involved leaded gasoline, a violence epidemic, the constant threat of nuclear annihilation, and fucking AIDS. People can just fuck off with the nostalgia horseshit.
Yeah, there are segments of the far left and far right alike that are built on a sour paranoia that the better world of your youth was robbed from you. The main difference is whether the paranoia pools around disfavored ethnic cultural groups or nebulous monied interests.
Nostalgia is a fundamentally fascist impulse. The left should never traffick in these tropes because when the we cannot bring the 50s back through science or magic, the far right will be offering a much more twisted version of the same vision.
