Capitalists created a two tier system over the last 5 decades with a few winners and the rest being exploited and we’re about to reap the “bitter harvest of popular rage” now as corporate fully integrates with state. American fascism is here.
30 years ago today, I warned that America was becoming a two-tiered society composed of a few winners and a larger group left behind, whose anger and disillusionment could be easily manipulated.

I took a lot of heat for this speech at the time. Watch and tell me if I was wrong.

“Every $1,300 New York invested in building bike-lanes in 2015 provided benefits equivalent to 1 additional year of life at full health over the lifetime of all city residents, according to a new economic assessment.”

Bike-lanes are a sound public health investment.

Next time you're applying for a job, tell your prospective employer you'd prefer they not do a background check.

Let's see how that goes.

“Since 2016, we have suffered a collective failure of imagination about how the years ahead will unfold” and now we’ll pay the price.
If anything, we’re probably under-imagining how disruptive and different the next decade or generation of America will be. I sketch out here two scenarios (not mutually exclusive) about the peril and challenge ahead: www.doomsdayscenario.co/p/two-scenar...

While the last two presidential elections were about democracy vs fascism, this last one was really just about survival vs annihilation, and we willingly handed the keys to terrorists.

The reality-based community is studying judiciously, as you will, Trump's Cabinet picks without any clue that the names don't even matter, that it's all about the destruction of any concepts of U.S. governance or even basic reality as we've come to know them

It’s not so much that they hate universities as it is they hate that universities have actually (very slightly) shifted their demographics to be more inclusive and move POC into positions of esteem. THEY still want THEIR kids to go to college, they just want to make it hard for everyone else again

NYC is on fire because Eric Adams took a hatchet to the Parks Department budget, firing 51 forestry specialists who remove the dead trees and invasive species most likely to ignite during dry periods.
Eric Adams's Budget Cuts Have Set Up New York City's Parks to Burn
By cutting the exact people meant to keep the city's parks free from fallen, dead trees and keep the forests healthy, the mayor has set up a tinderbox that's already igniting.

"Those who claim calling Trump a threat to democracy is violent rhetoric are doing a kind of rhetorical violence to democracy, screeching it to a halt, making of an ever-moving idea a static one, writing a banal and brutal ending onto a story that’s meant to keep going."

#UBI results in more trust, agreeableness and social cohesion, and less anxiety, depression and crime. And with the rise of AI especially, it’s a must!
Empathy and community should be at the heart of our society. With Universal Basic Income, we can shift towards a future where everyone’s basic needs are met, fostering creativity and innovation. Let’s build a world where we lift each other up instead of leaving anyone behind.
