I had the opportunity to review the work experience and skills of numerous people who were laid off or fired from public health jobs by Donald Trump.

I want every taxpayer to know that the US has lost an immeasurable number of the smartest, most experienced, and hardworking people on the planet.

Very insightful. Stats I’ve seen say 65% of Americans are invested. (Not 50), fees are terrible - yes! but also retail banking is a $ loser. They are forced to do it. (Just a lens). Local tax funding of schools is another - poor areas have underfunded schools, less oppty, causes a repeating cycle. /
"Why do so many Americans live in poverty? Because so many rich people benefit from it.

This is the thesis of the lauded sociologist Matthew Desmond’s new book, Poverty, by America."
The War on Poverty Is Over. Rich People Won.
The sociologist Matthew Desmond believes that being poor is different in the U.S. than in other rich countries.

My grandpa Leo serving in France, barely 18. His father drove an ambulance since he was too old for combat. Later, Leo would drive an ambulance in WW-II while his son John fought. I've always admired service to something larger, and I deeply appreciate it. Wherever, however you served, thank you.

so our 2yo coffee maker started beeping this morning, a high temp alarm as far as I can tell. Parts of the plastic housing were just starting to melt. Guessing the thermostat failed? Not sure. Looks like it’s probably a 20 cent thermistor but there are no parts or specs online. argh. It’s so dumb.

when i was a srsly broke musician in Boston, my bandmate & I would go play guitar in a T-station, make a few bucks and then we’d go buy a box of kraft mac & cheese for .99 and split it for dinner. I guess we were just thinking inside the box.

I got back to my office after the vote last night and recorded this. There's no way to sugarcoat what happened. And my fear is that Trump gets stronger, not weaker, because of this acquiescence. I'm angry - like you. But I choose to keep fighting.

Living with Long COVID often feels like living in a horror movie. Along with your disease comes a creepy Hive Mind refusal to acknowledge the dangers of COVID infection. In Vince Gilligan's new Apple TV show Pluribus, the Hive Mind comes to life:

"Pluribus" captures the isolation of COVID-awareness in a COVID denialist world
For years I've described having Long COVID as living in a horror movie. Now that horror movie (well, prestige Apple TV show) is here.

5 years ago in sept '20 I got together with 2 bandmates and recorded this cover for a Wilco tribute to support Chicago music clubs. We stayed masked except if singing and kept pretty far apart. Very few takes, mostly live. Despite being recorded in a concrete basement it still sounds good.

He is a computer safety researcher.

And he has written one of the most compelling, comprehensive accounts of the ongoing hell in Chicago that you could possibly imagine.
