Maybe you should actually be asking yourself, "Are these really the people I am related too..."

The Southampton Review

By the way, it's National Editor Appreciation Day.

Nobody ever reads a great article and thinks, "Dang, that was some tight editing." But editing is a big part of how it got to be great.

So writers, if you've ever worked with a good editor, shout 'em out.

“Elite” is a pretty contested term and seems to shift between referring to a fairly small group to referring to anyone with a college degree and white collar employment. But Larry Summers really is a useful exemplar. There’s people like him that just get to sit at every single table somehow.

This semester has reminded me of the joys of commiserating with peers in grad school: "They should take me out back and shoot me for how bad this essay is;" "My presentation is going to be the worst this semester;" "My short story is so bad this week you won't even believe it."

Volumes Bookcafe closing in Chicago is really terrible, disconcerting news. Small businesses are community building institutions; Barnes & Noble is not. B&N profits go to a hedge fund in West Palm Beach. This is a messed up timeline if Wicker Park of all places can’t sustain an indie bookstore.

This is a joke about dumb poor Kentuckians.

A close read however, shows how many people in Kentucky want to vote for a %#!? socialist, they’ve reached out to their local electoral officials to make sure that they can.

Tell me again how we need to be a little racist to attract rural red voters.
