Airstrikes don’t “test” a ceasefire. They break a ceasefire. Language isn’t that hard, media. Neither is professionalism and bravery.

No, but please, tell me more about how ai is amazing and should be used by everyone, while it destroys a foot ball field of clean water per stupid request and prompt
NEW: Many of the world’s vital sources of underground fresh water took millions of years to form and could require thousands of years to refill, as water mined from them largely ends up in the rising oceans.

Researchers warn: This drying is now nearly impossible to reverse “on human timescales.”
“Staggering” Water Loss Driven by Groundwater Mining Poses Global Threat
A new study finds that freshwater resources are rapidly disappearing, creating arid “mega” regions and causing sea levels to rise.

Canada says it's a refuge. It has dangled only false hopes to Palestinians seeking to study here after Israel bombed their universities, or who have applied to be reunited with family.

I co-wrote this piece with Deborah Cowen, Kyo Maclear and Madeleine Thien www.theglobeandmail.com/gift/7a8fbe1...
Canada needs to follow through on its promise to help people in Gaza
Ottawa’s ‘special measures’ visa program for Gaza has so far proved to be little more than a cruel taunt

Notable back-and-forth between @lanrickbennett.bsky.social and Councillor Paula Fletcher here. Lanrick makes good argument for protected bike lanes on Jones Ave, as previously approved by council. Fletcher says that plan takes away too many parking spaces. beachmetro.com/2025/06/05/i...
In My Opinion: Need for protected cycle tracks on Jones Avenue must be made clear to local councillor – Beach Metro Community News

Yesterday, we heard from healthcare workers who have been in Gaza — people who can go where Canadian journalists aren’t able to access.

Today, humanitarian aid workers took their turn.

They warned that Israel is using aid as a military and political tool.

Here's what else they told us:

This is an official plan for ethnic cleansing. If you supported Israel for the past 18 months or so under the assumption that this was about the hostages you were taken for a ride.

If you still support Israel's assault on Gaza, you support ethnic cleansing. It's that simple.
Israel plans to occupy and flatten all of Gaza if no deal by Trump's trip
Trump has effectively given Netanyahu a green light to do as he sees fit, Israeli officials say.

This is horrifying and devastating news. Virginia was hounded and harassed by tabloids, a prominent Substack writer, and lawyers who sought to undermine her allegations. Others ignored her in their jokes and conspiracies about her abusers. www.nbcnews.com/news/amp/rcn...
Virginia Giuffre, one of Jeffrey Epstein's most prominent abuse survivors, dies by suicide
Other Epstein victims credited Giuffre with giving them the courage to speak out.

Really incredible to have CTV, an entire broadcast news outlet, say they 'don't have the bandwidth' to deal with the type of harassment that Rachel Gilmore deals with as an individual journalist all the time.
NEW: CTV cancelled a fact-checking segment in response to political pressure from Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives

An audio recording obtained by PressProgress shows CTV cancelled an ‘election misinformation’ segment with journalist Rachel Gilmore after online backlash from conservatives

One thing I didn't write but should have: an Uber exec on the task force that sees bike lanes a problem. Those lanes keep their Uber Eats delivery people safe. By coming out against lanes as congestion causes they are really saying they don't care about the safety of their delivery people.
How the Toronto Region Board of Trade got lost in traffic. My Toronto Star column on their terrible congestion task force report & how they’ve lost their way of late. $billions on a 401 tunnel? Where’s the rational business people now?

Shawn Micallef: How the Toronto Region Board of Trade got lost in traffic
The only thing that will make getting around Toronto better is fewer cars and more people taking public transit, cycling or walking. There is no other way.
