I cannot do the discourse all over again so I am once again going to say that MLB is incredibly clear with players that you cannot under any circumstances gamble on baseball, and players have also been legal and illegal gambling degenerates for as long as legal and illegal gambling has existed

I'm not saying this is or isn't true because I don't know and neither does anyone reading it but it's worth noting that Walsh is a *hockey* agent at Octagon, which is very far removed from the two parties involved in the confrontation
These new details from last summer's confrontation between Rob Manfred and Bryce Harper are absolutely insane.
MLB officials threatening players will "end up in a ditch" for disrespecting Manfred is outrageous behavior.

imo, big agree with the thesis here, but I find some of the framing to be scattershot and tenuous (Madden? non-sports betting on Polymarket?) when you can just, like, blame the gambling apps directly
an excellent essay. not sure i agree with every conclusion -- the leap from madden to fanduel feels *slightly* like a stretch -- but this is a tough issue that should force lots of people to consider their positions on this a decade ago: www.nytimes.com/2025/10/28/o...
