Can pressure gradients persist over long timescales in animal cells? We induced intracellular pressure gradients and examined the resulting flows in single cells. We reveal surprisingly long lasting pressure gradients.

Are you interested on how regenerating tissues transit between stages? Am sharing here our work showing that during #Xenopus tail regeneration, tissue stiffening activates a Piezo1-Yap1 mechanosensitive cascade to allow wounded epithelia to transit into regenerative states!

This mechanosensitive mechanism ensures that mitosis only occurs once chromosomes are sufficiently condensed, avoiding potential segregation errors caused by premature mitotic entry.
jorgeferreira.bsky.social
We further demonstrate how mitotic chromosome condensation generates a mechanical signal on the nuclear envelope during prophase. This mechanical signal coordinates the multiple steps required for mitotic entry such as cyclin B1 nuclear translocation and dynein binding to nuclear pores.
jorgeferreira.bsky.social
In this new work, we show that irreversible mitotic commitment is driven by chromosome condensation that takes place inside the prophase nucleus.

Just learned of the passing of Frank Stahl. Together with Mat Meselson, he figured out one of the most amazing processes in biology. How does DNA replicate? Check out the beautiful movie made by iBiology and celebrate their legacy! www.ibiology.org/genetics-and...
The Most Beautiful Experiment: Meselson and Stahl • iBiology
Matt Meselson and Frank Stahl share the story of their groundbreaking experiment from 1958 that definitively showed semiconservative DNA replication.
