I've been working on a game pitch and story dear to me, "ENGINE ANGEL", with the team at Ivy Road!

I will say this: a lot of new folks are clinging to a nostalgia for ‘getting a publisher’ as a marker of validation, of being a ‘real game’.

And I’m here to tell you that’s bollocks. They need you more than you need them. If they can provide a service, awesome, but you hold the means of production.

People outside the games industry don't grasp that this is absolutely unheard of. Workers don't get royalties, and we definitely don't get performance bonuses. When we make a hit game we sometimes just get laid off

more people need to give themselves the opportunity to be a jack of all trades when it comes to gamedev.
go on and learn the music software to make the music. learn to code (even if poorly). do the art and animation yourself. you’ll get it to work!
it’s liberating to see how much you can accomplish.
