He/him. Seattle. People should be able to walk and roll without dying.
I really hope we reimagine MLK jr way S for all the people that live on the street. Our transit boulevard should live up to its billing.

Why are we assuming that we want to maintain car volumes? To meet our climate, public health and road safety goals as a city, there is no reason any on or off ramp in #Seattle should require multiple lanes. #Rainier

When older people talk about the tradeoffs they faced in their early to mid career it makes it even clearer to me that there's a real tightness in the affordability of housing than before.
Umm...this has always been true for a vast majority of people. We moved 25 years ago from where I most wanted to live because we could not afford a big enough house for our growing family. And we're wealthy.

3.25 tons (!) of donations hauled by bike for Byrd Barr Place, Rainier Valley Food Bank, U District Food Bank and White Center Food Bank. A 55% increase over 2024, which was itself a record-breaking year for Seattle Cranksgiving. Astonishing. I still can barely believe it. #CranksgivingSEA

Noteworthy, because in 2009 this was specifically not the process, with an independent body created to produce a list of names - because it's a bit unusual for an Executive to create a list of candidates to fill their own vacant council seat.
King County Executive-elect Zahilay says he intends to submit 3 nominees for his open council seat that will act as caretakers and not run for the seat next year. He says the appointment should take place by 12/9.

(He's being sworn in as Executive tomorrow.)

One of the coolest things I saw in Toulouse was the redevelopment of the Toulouse-Montaudran airport. It's a bigger project than what Mike is talking about, but we have some seriously brownfield opportunities in Seattle and the region and I wish we could do this type of development.

I view accepting interim director Adiam Emery's resignation as the first test for Mayor Wilson on transportation. I don't think that she can deliver on her vision with Emery at the helm of SDOT.
Continuity can be good, and there are Harrell administration leaders who have earned a chance to continue, but @wilsonforseattle.bsky.social should accept Adiam Emery’s resignation, and appoint a new interim SDOT director to serve while she conducts a national search.

Need to work with SPD, SDOT, local businesses, neighbors, and our CVI nonprofits to find ways to discourage and prevent this from continuing and escalating further.

I just want to point out that this is literally stealing space from pedestrians for car infrastructure.
the safest pedestrian stretch of Ashland Avenue is in front of this sneaker resale store that had bollards installed directly in front and big blocks of concrete placed on the sidewalk after they were smash-n-grabbed a couple years ago: abc7chicago.com/post/smash-a...

Community action gets the goods. I didn't get a photo this morning, but the Dearborn concrete protection is back ahead of schedule!
Paint isn't protection. Restore the Dearborn bike lane now!

It was great talking with people about the lights- everyone agreed they are needed ASAP. I set up my camera to match what the human eye can see. How many people do you see in this picture?

Brand. new. bike. lanes.
Approximately an hour ago, Seattle Fire responded to a driver hitting someone on a bike near Airport Way S and Corson Ave S.

The person who was hit was transported to the hospital.

From dark to.... slightly less dark.

Thanks to those that came out, helped light up the night, and chatted with community members about getting the lights back on.

"What's the crisis"

The crisis is that in college town in downstate Illinois which historically had cheap as dirt housing, there's enough people that can't afford shelter that one of the few third-space indoor spaces in the walkable-ish downtown just removed it's tables.

WAIT WAS IT DE RE / DE DICTO CONFLATION ALL ALONG
The idea that people want to live in density, and therefore building more dense neighborhoods will drive up prices, is in fact pretty antithetical to the market economic underpinnings of YIMBYism (and in fact an argument that has been very explicitly made by anti-YIMBYs).
as will notes, people tend to *say* they want suburban living. they want a big house and a big yard and etc. this is not however what is suggested by their actual purchasing practices, which invariably result in something like this:

I can't believe this has gone on for multiple days, but the simplest response to this is that we do not have nearly enough walkable urbanism for the more than 40% of Americans who want to live this way

Day three of Will's YIMBYs won't admit people like big houses argument is now him claiming that the YIMBY policy goal is to make it illegal to build detached (?) single family homes.
Everyone is responding to this as if I said “you can build all types of housing” (no) or “you can build non-SFH everywhere” (extremely no). The point is that there are many places that do build multifamily (not enough places!) and we can see that SFH suburbanization does continue in those places.
Guys, I promise there are lots of place in America where it's perfectly legal to build dwellings that aren't single-family homes. This is a weird urbanist myth. Lots of non-SFH housing gets built! That's good, we should build more, but it hasn't exactly ended demand for detached suburban units.

This is a conflation of appreciating land value with appreciating structure value. A 1M detached sfh on a 25k sqft lot close to the city appreciates a lot faster than a 1M townhome on an 800 sqft lot because land doesn't get old
This is cope. You can poll people directly. You can look at what families do as they acquire more wealth. You can look at which prices rise fastest when demand goes up. You can look at where people actually live. You can look at urban migration patterns over time. It all says the same.
The point is that we can't actually deduce "the large majority prefer single family" from our data with confidence because we've removed the ability for people to reveal their preferences by legislating for single family over everything else.
