What about ReStud? They are European, do they do a better job from your perspective?

Out of 22 comments, about 20 led to edits. Most were minor, but I don’t think all would have eventually been flagged, and it definitely saved time. Well worth $50, I’ll definitely use it again.

Pro tip: check if you need pre-approval to charge this to a research funds account…

I tried this on a manuscript—I’m impressed! It flagged:

- A missing variable in a first-order condition
- An outdated manual calc (“drop from X to Y is not Z%”)
- Inconsistent notation
- Miscellaneous typos (“and and”, “+ +”)
- Missing subscripts
- Several unclear passages

I've been working on a new tool, Refine, to make scholars more productive. If you're interested in being among the very first to try the beta, please read on.

Refine leverages the best current AI models to draw your attention to potential errors and clarity issues in research paper drafts.

Hi Bluesky!

I'm excited to share my job market paper (for the 2025-26 market)!

It introduces a new extension of RDD where outcomes are entire distributions: Regression Discontinuity Design with Distributions (R3D).

Elsevier has dismissed Richard Tol as editor of the highly successful "Energy Economics". His account of the alleged and the actual reasons casts an even darker shadow over the academic publishing business.

"This makes nitazenes an example of the Iron Law of Prohibition, proposed by Richard Cowan, a drug-legalisation activist, in 1986. Banning one compound opens the door to a new, stronger alternative—just as Prohibition in America led to a shift from beer to spirits"

Today's ChatGPT use case: give it Stata code and have it draft a methodology section based on it. A straightforward yet somewhat time-consuming task to do manually.

Bonus: if the writeup doesn't match what you THINK you did, it may be due to an error in your code that you didn't catch.

On net, 2025 experiences with X/Bluesky not as good as the old days of Twitter. That era may be over.

In the case of non-random sorts, the other option is `sort, stable`

It's hard to generalize, but on the margin this definitely tilts the balance toward non-US departments.

Over 125 economists signed the open letter calling on the President, Congress, and the American public to uphold the principles of Federal Reserve independence and not remove Lisa Cook without due process.

There's still time to sign! And please share.

My points are not always "key" or "critical". Sometimes they are "fundamental" or "crucial", which are notably and meaningfully distinct.
