Rodney Taylor still needs our help!

He’s still locked in an ICE camp.

He’s still going without his new prosthetic legs.

He’s still facing deportation to Liberia.

He’s still having necessary disability accommodations ignored.

Please keep sharing his story. Public pressure works!
Help Rodney Taylor, a Disabled Double Amputee Being Held by ICE
Rodney has been in the country more than 40 years. He's in solitary confinement in Georgia, being denied disability accommodations and having his medical needs ignored. He must be released.

This entire thread explains one of the REAL reasons I'm so pissed about this whole Bluesky CEO Waffles mess.

I liked that meme. That was a good meme. The waffles tweet from years ago was a *good tweet*, and they are DRASTICALLY misusing it and turning it into a freakin' dogwhistle for their ingroup
dryad.technology
So I'd like to show a demonstration of what this "waffles" thing is. Here's a conversation between *this site's* CEO, some random guy, and the cofounder of "Tangled", a GitHub clone built on top of Bluesky's protocol.

Please take a moment to really think, about the shape of this thoughtlessness.

Jennifer L. Armentrout and Hellmann's
In a promotion designed for BookTok enjoyment, Jennifer L. Armentrout’s just-published THE PRIMAL OF BLOOD AND BONE is available in a special, limited-edition "garlic-scented copy, infused with Hellmann’s Garlic Aioli to create a one-of-a-kind, Craven-proof book." They explain: "This exclusive edition is printed with garlic-infused ink, designed to ward off Armentrout’s bloodthirsty monsters, the Craven. While humans may dread garlic breath, Hellmann’s has cleverly transformed this social faux pas into an unexpected – and delicious – form of supernatural protection."

There have been two hosts in the history of Reading Rainbow. The Legend of Literacy, LeVar Burton! And... me, Mychal Threets, a librarian 🥹🤯

I am a reader, a librarian because LeVar Burton and Reading Rainbow made us believe and see we belong in books, we belong everywhere ✨

Smiling Mychal with hands raised wears an outer space shirt in a library. It is a still from an episode of Reading Rainbow. LeVar Burton smiles with hands behind his head as he lies down on a colorful pile of books. ENEMY PIE book rests on his chest.

I'm sure this isn't a novel insight but everything happening with tech platforms must, to some degree, be driven by their managers and developers actively hating their users and rueing that they have any autonomy as human beings other than being manipulable data points for behavioral experimentation

One of my 1st jobs in Hollywood was as a file clerk for a dept of Disney called “Pooh Licensing” *pause for snickering*. PL’s job was to go after ANYONE who used Winnie the Pooh w/o paying for the right. They sued folks from bootleggers to school teachers who hung Pooh on a classroom door. CUT TO:

This is an excellent point I need to digest how it might reshape the recc's Doctorow proposes if we took the initial white-logic of platforms seriously as part of the development of their exploitative character...

really enjoying all the people trying to explain the bible to the pope today
Pope Leo XIV
Today, more than ever, we must return to the heart, the center of feeling and emotion, the locus of freedom. Though it includes reason, the heart transcends and transforms it. Only by returning to the heart can we undergo a true ecological conversion that transforms our personal

The real deal is this btw 👇 There are very few but the lower horizontal beam never just sticks through like that. If Hokusai drew it again today, I’d think it was a genAI hallucinating 😂

@kaitlynugoretz.bsky.social what do you make of 戈/才 ?

Typo ¿
Carver's misspelling ¿
quirinpress.bsky.social
seems to read
三戈鳥栖 さんさいとりゐ Sansai toriwi
some give 三才 Sansai / three-powers, but also three-parts…
戈 as sai does not tally, as 戈 is usually pron. hoko ?
but that does seem to be what is carved in the woodblock
【unless it is an abbreviation for 三歲 sansai 3 years of age ???】
kaitlynugoretz.bsky.social
It’s possible that it was a play on words (three spears instead of pillars) but I hate to speculate when basically he’s trolling us hundreds of years later 😅
kaitlynugoretz.bsky.social
No one else uses さんさいとりい to talk about this rare form, just another cool but weird Hokusai-ism

Tbf, not an Edo kanji expert, but I’ve found evidence of 戈 read as さい. The meaning ends up being immaterial imo bc Hokusai, true to form, made this torii up, probably based on a description of 三柱鳥居 that he heard from someone else. He did it w/ four pillars too, it’s just not the right architecture.
