Well that was mesmerisingly good. Serious yet with humour, a little vaudeville thrown in, as that was part of the real Edward's stage act.

I'm so glad I got to see this true story, one man show. See it if you get the chance. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

It took a highly sophisticated Jacquard weave to create the incredibly detailed oranges that form the fabric of of this early 1890s dress. You can almost smell the citrusy peel. There so many details to observe here, the pattern matching, the cuff trim, the drama! #V&A #FashionHistory 🗃️🪡

Käthe Kollwitz
Stehende Frau, nach links
1888

charcoal on buff paper
55.3 x 44.1 cm
A beautiful charcoal sketch of a young woman in left profile by Kollwitz, then just 20 years old. "Focusing on a young woman in distress, the subject's entire body is taut with anxiety and despair as she clutches the wall behind her for support. The drawing forms part of an extensive series of preparatory works Kollwitz created for a painting inspired by Emile Zola’s celebrated novel, Germinal." (Christie's)

"We are now at a critical moment in time. 75% of the building is derelict, and there has already been one fire in the property in recent times"

I have a horrible sense of déjà vu

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

NEW Karnak, at the ancient #Egyptian capital of Thebes, is one of the world's largest temple complexes. The first geoarchaeological research there suggests the complex may have been constructed to recall the 'primeval mound' of Egyptian creation myths.

“It’s tempting to suggest the Theban elites chose Karnak’s location for the dwelling place of a new form of the creator god, ‘Ra-Amun’, as it fitted the cosmogonical scene of high ground emerging from surrounding water,”

Okay, Botticelli’s ‘La Primavera’ is stunning. Pushing through the crowds to get up close to Cate Blanchett, subconsciously humming ‘The Girl is Crying in her Latte’.

Laurits Andersen Ring's fascination with artificial lighting and his dramatic use of strong chiaroscuro is evident throughout his career; he often explored themes of loneliness and the human condition. This is from 1899.

Six weeks ago, I picked up a year-old tawny owl with a broken leg off the main road near our home and dropped him off at our nearest vet.

After a few days, I received one of the most bizarre phone calls I’ve ever had, asking “So when are you coming to pick up your owl?” 🧵

My father, rooting about his shelves, found a book he’d inherited from his father. Opened it for the first time. Inside an inscription.

My grandfather, Robert C Miller, was a US airforce metrologist. He developed the first tornado forecast. The inscription is during the development of that forecast
A green hardback of Meditations by Marcus Aurelius. Inside the book an inscription, in beautiful swooping cursive penmanship:

To Major R.C. Miller

For those moments while you’re waiting for the forecast to verify - a few meditations of another misunderstood genius.
