Update: This happened last night—Senate Republicans went nuclear, overruling the parliamentarian and blowing up the filibuster to repeal California's vehicle emissions standards.

Many Republicans will likely cite this precedent as reason to bypass the filibuster to pass the reconciliation bill too.

Senate Republicans Are Poised to Deal a Shattering Blow to the Filibuster
Throughout the 2024 campaign, GOP senators shouted from the rooftops that they would preserve the tactic if they won back the chamber. Whoops.

Four-Day work week? Iceland figured it out. Why can’t we?

Iceland adopted a 4-day week and got healthier, happier citizens. Meanwhile, Republicans are pushing kids into the workforce just ask Gov. Huckabee.

America doesn’t have a work problem. It has a GOP problem.
Iceland adopted the four-day workweek starting in 2019, and more than five years later, it’s confirmed, Gen Z was right all along.
Iceland has largely adopted a significant reduction in working time since 2019. More than five years after this bold transition, the results are clear: almost 90% of the working population benefits fr...

This isn't hypothetical.

The coming days are bringing higher prices and disrupted supply chains, this time not because of a pandemic or a war, but self-inflicted by our country's government under this president.

"Fascism is here, America. May we have what is needed to drive it back to the hell it came from."
Decent Americans, we need to listen to History right now.
She is warning us that we are on the precipice of a free-fall.
We can't afford to go to sleep now.
We need to wake ourselves up.

They're called public records for a reason. Starting today, WIRED will *stop paywalling* articles that are primarily based on public records obtained through the Freedom of Information Act, becoming the first publication to partner with @freedom.press to offer this for our new coverage.
Wired is dropping paywalls for FOIA-based reporting. Others should follow

When I first moved to Alabama in the late 80s after college, I lived in Birmingham. I rented a house from a lawyer (would 100% NOT recommend) near Avalon Park. Could not get pizza delivery unless I specified I was on the “correct” side of the park. One street over were million dollar mansions.
I live in a town, and a state, and a country that drives me crazy.
Sometimes they'd all rather rip themselves apart than prosper together.
Problem is I can't stop loving them. Even when I hate 'em.
Archibald: Birmingham is in trouble. Can it save itself?
I, like the people who ran this town, just wanted to talk about football.
