I deadlifted more than my bodyweight today and even though it was only a single rep for laughs, to see if I could get the bar moving, I'm still stupidly pleased about it!

I am rereading The Lord Of The Rings (excellent when on holiday and hiking) and I forgot just how incredibly good these books are. Incredible story, wonderful characters, beautifully written and sometimes funny enough to have me laughing in the middle of a restaurant by myself

The weirdest thing about using a smart watch to track my running and exercise, is the focus on weight and calories. I do NOT want to lose weight, I prefer not knowing my weight! I love a lot of the data, just not the weird weight stuff

I started running again this year and to my great surprise I'm having fun with it! My poor joints however are not

I've been mostly pain free for a couple of months now, but last week was very busy, it suddenly rained for a day or two and then I had my one working Sunday of the year, so my shoulder has basically been hurting non stop since Friday. And now the jaw is getting in on the action too...

On the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic, we thought we'd answer a question that's often asked,

"If they raised the Mary Rose, why not raise the Titanic?"

Allow our scaled diagram to explain...

The weird thing about getting bad news is that after you get it, for some reason the world just keeps on turning. Like, I found out my grandfather has terminal cancer, and a couple hours later I was getting groceries trying not to cry. It sucks so bad

I fully forgot Kylie Minogue was a companion in Doctor Who. What an excellent surprise!

This plaque in Prague has been rubbed to a shiny gold because for centuries, passersby have touched the dog for good luck, and also to reassure him that he's a very good boy. 14/10

never forget the conclave costume designer gave an interview to the NYT where she was like "we checked out the stuff the real vatican guys wear and they sucked, the fabric is chintzy and red is all wrong. ours are better" www.nytimes.com/2024/11/10/s...
Reimagining How to Dress a Pope
In the film “Conclave,” the costume designer Lisy Christl clothed an army of catty cardinals, from their miters down to their quirky glasses.

it is never okay to misgender someone no matter how much of an asshole they are

look at what’s happening right now - if you make your acceptance of someone’s gender conditional on how much you like them, you are contributing to the attempted eradication of trans people

My brain has progressively been feeling worse all day, but I did go to the gym and got in a workout, and I'm proud of that. The fact that I can get to feeling good about that small thing next to all of the overstimulation and stress is such progress

since it is Muppet Christmas Carol time, let us revisit this wonderful interview with Michael Caine, who loves it as much as the rest of us

“People say to me, Have you ever sung? I say, Yes, I sang in a movie. They say, Who with? I say, Kermit the Frog.”
Michael Caine Loves 'The Muppet Christmas Carol' as Much as You Do
