If I were dictator of America I would mandate that general tax revenue be used to install a large battery (say, 200MWh) next to every distribution feeder on the US grid. That would, in a stroke, solve basically all our grid problems & unlock *trillions* of dollars of economic growth & development.

All latitude bands were warmer than average over the last 3 months. This was particularly notable across the Antarctic around the South Pole (austral winter).

Plot shows zonal-mean temperature anomalies, where latitude = y-axis (not scaled by distance). GISTEMPv4 data using their 1951-1980 baseline
Bar graph showing zonal mean surface air temperature anomalies for the period of June-July-August 2025. All latitude bands observed above average temperature anomalies.

The multi-decade Senator who did nothing for his state to improve their education, their economy, or their lives used his power to enable Trump who is now destroying the US economy, scientific supremacy and its excellence, democracy, and the free world order. Shame on you, McConnell.

September observes the largest losses of #Arctic sea ice concentration compared to any other month of the year. And NO increases. The largest declines are in parts of the Chukchi and Beaufort Seas.

Sea ice concentration = fraction of ice-cover. More info: doi.org/10.1175/BAMS...
Polar stereographic map showing Arctic sea ice concentration trends for Septembers from 1979 to 2024. Red shading is shown for deceasing sea ice, and blue shading is shown for increasing sea ice. Trends are calculated in % per decade. All areas are observing decreasing sea ice in the outer edges of the Arctic Ocean.
