i know it's tiring to have to repeat this message,

but i place the blame on the mean-spirited ai hype machine

this is a natural consequence of the "ai is coming for your job" campaigns we've been assaulted by for the last few years

interesting... have they explicitly said that they use labelers to train for gen ai?

i looked on their website and privacy policy and didn't see this mentioned

using art for training gen AI would be a no for me

but if they're just using the labeler to train their moderation models, it makes sense

it is a real tragedy that our lawmakers were not forward thinking enough to get ahead of the gen ai wave to put in protections for the creative class

because there are legitimate use cases for machine learning that make sense

ai grifters are the true enemy of ai

this is an ai use case that actually makes sense, though

even if bsky had a large team - and they don't - reviewing every piece of 40 million users' content with eyeballs is not possible

plus there is some horrifying content out there that no human should have to see

What’s up with this… Is 1) The Hive really being used, and 2) using images here for generative AI? Pretty bad look if true

To anyone thinking about joining BlueSky, especially artists: everything you post is used to train generative Al models.
BlueSky uses Al to label content for moderation, and to do that they use a company called https://t hehive.ai/. If you look through their privacy policy, you will see that they all content sent to them to train models for all their services, which include generative Al for both text and images.
It's a built in «feature" and cannot be turned off.

by the way, all those benign AI bots crawling the internet for for-profit LLMs, yeah it turns out when 9,000 hit your archive catalogue or image database all at once they break the system. This is an emerging sector issue.

The last weeks have literally seen humans labouring to feed the machines...

if i still worked in the comms industry, definitely!

it's a challenging problem, but it's an interesting one and i don't think it's impossible to do decently, perhaps even well

plus i really want atproto to win, so i have a vested interest
