Tired of Kindle annotations living in separate files?

Built Kindle PDF Annotator to embed your highlights & notes directly back into PDFs.

Finally share annotated PDFs with colleagues and integrate with Zotero again.

I know people are submitting AI-generated papers and some are AI-assisted, but…

There were 26,646 new submissions to arXiv in September 2025.

Did you know that our Open Reviewers Toolkit is now available in Portuguese (also in English and Spanish)?

You can find these guides and more on our Resources page: prereview.org/resources

Let us know your preference for what languages we should prioritize next here: forms.gle/KwL51vinhYCN...

Super exciting work, and a bonus to see a major university research department promote an exciting @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social preprint rather than wait 9-12 months for the final version 👏🏽

🚧 Downtime Reminder 🚧

OSF will be offline Sat., October 4 from 9am–~5pm ET while we deploy the updated OSF interface.

Saved content will remain available, but be sure to save in-progress wiki edits, preprints, & project drafts beforehand & close any open tabs.

More info:
Coming Soon: A New Look for OSF
In early October 2025, the Open Science Framework (OSF) will launch a refreshed design that makes the platform easier to navigate and use. The update modernizes the interface and improves performance, while preserving the familiar workflows that users are accustomed to.

There was a ScholCommLab paper last year that did a look at how preprint servers approach this problem currently that I found informative. I also expect this is an area where changes/maturation will be coming soon (given problems with AI slop that seem to be growing).

1/ Starting next year, @hhmi.org will require all authors to share their research as preprints under a CC BY 4.0 license as part of its new Immediate Access to Research policy.

It's interesting that they make the argument that quality is expensive. Actually it's selectivity that is expensive - if you reject 90% of what you're sent, the remaining 10% has to cost more. But selectivity is not the same thing as quality...

Yes, in that you can post commentary freely on servers that allow it (which is good). No, in that just posting commentary doesn't enable clear linkage to the output being reviewed. Without a system like bioRxiv's comments/community reviews, later readers aren't alerted of the context/commentary.
katiecorker.bsky.social
To me the form is not so important (html, pdf, whatever), it's that blogs are transient (destined to fail eventually) and more importantly, they aren't linked back to the source. It's not easy for a casual reader to find the commentary later.

I want this kind of back and forth to be somewhere that everyone can see it and enjoy it, in perpetuity. What if peer review worked more like this, in the open?

In January 2025, life science preprint servers @biorxivpreprint.bsky.social and @medrxivpreprint.bsky.social updated their license selector, placing CC BY at the top of the list. Just six months later, the number of CC BY-licensed preprints has increased for the first time in five years.
