I cannot stress how important it is for people to get a solid VPN and learn how to use it before that happens.
KOSA will pass in the next legislative session and the US will have online age verification for all websites just like the UK.

Given how the government abuses our data, it’s going to cause hella disruptions in the Internet as users try to figure out a way forward without sacrificing their privacy

Y'know the best (worst) part about being independent when writing something like this?

Being accountable to only yourself

AKA; why I had to double check everything from the ACLU petition, to the mildly suspect HR987 and S401 bills, to the weird name of the studio who made No Mercy, to Itch's font.

It’s legitimately scary that in 2025 a sizable portion of American society thinks it was a mistake giving women the right to no-fault divorce, credit, and voting.

even spreading this thread and others like it will help. this is a really big one.

visa and mastercard deciding what games are allowed to be sold is an apocalyptic level threat to the games industry. phone calls are the highest impact way to help.

this is an all hands on deck situation. the enemy got results with 1000 phone calls.

we can beat them

So, I'm in a bundle that was already planned months ago. All of the creators in the bundle have set it so that itch gets 0% for it and all our other sales. I'm gonna leave my books on Itch and make them force me off. I'm gonna scrub the pages so they will actually have to read my books to find out

Folks, as part of this whole crackdown on art: do not self report. Don't put things in summaries, don't do itemized lists of what is in your work. Make it hard for the censors to catch you. Make them read the whole thing. They usually won't.

These new guidelines basically force authors who rely on itch.io money to choose between trigger warnings for their readers and trying to fly under the radar so their shit doesn't get deleted.

It's not a good look for a site that once had all the indie goodwill it could ever want.
not only are these new guidelines incredibly broad, but there's no wiggle room to appeal. itch can and will steal creators' money with no accessible form of recourse.
