"To advocate policies that increase the overuse of resources and sinks is in the strictest sense insane. To notice this does not require any special knowledge." John B. Cobb, Jesus' Abba.

One would think that, wouldn't one...

But yes, let's keep speaking truth and hope for common sense to prevail.

We still need to reduce our global carbon emissions.

Nevertheless, I wonder how many interesting observations about how genetics work will be discovered and if / how much we* have to rethink paradigms.

Polar bears face “total extinction” by the end of this century, but scientists have found a small beacon of “hope”.

what's wild about people using ChatGPT is that they think it's like asking the all-knowing computer from Star Trek, but it's really like asking your day-drunk neighbor, who then steals your water and sets fire to your house

"being silent is riskier than what they can do to you" 🔥

This is the upside down world order of the cross that always stands against empire.

And yes, power is not a dirty word, and with great power comes great responsibility. Wrong canon, still true. Thank you for using yours to great effect.
This administration spends tons of time trying to convince us that our actions don't matter, and even if they did, they wouldn't be worth the risk. They do it because the opposite is true - we can push back on their authoritarianism and racism. We can win.

These trees look like Jimmy Hendrix & Claude Monet did a collab, but this is just what the rainbow eucalyptus (Eucalyptus deglupta) looks like every day: fabulous.

The only 'rainforest' eucalyptus, it's native to the Philippines & Indonesia, but introduced in Hawaii, Florida & California.

Escalated book order, part 3.

Listened to Philip Clayton a lot, when this book came out, I was interested, now I hopefully have the time to actually read it.

Why Ryan Burge isn't on here, strong institutions being a sustainability goal is about churches as well, churches should be great even if you don't believe any of it, and I have to find yale's talks on the good life. @trippfuller.bsky.social

Escalated book order, part 2

@brittlestar.com convinced me this would be a good present for the cat lovers hating fascism on my Christmas list.

Yes, it's basically one joke expanded to a rather thin book.
It's also full of clever insight and just what's needed at a time like this. #noregrets

Just listened to Tov or Toxic Church? with Scot McKnight and Laura Barringer pastorandphilosopher.buzzsprout.com (yes, it's from 2021)

Feels weird to hear people say "look how much better it is in Europe" with people in Europe *still* citing wc concerning leadership...

#DHS called my nativity "offensive to Christians," and I've got a lot to say about that. What's offensive to Christians is the vile way that they treat bearers of the image of God - that's everybody. We've got to stand up to this secret police force with all we have before it's too late.

Just today I talked to someone from a country where even basic literacy is not a given. I do not want to start wondering how to teach people things when they can't deepen their understanding by reading more on the topic even if they so choose.

Getting here was hard won, let's not give it up.
People think I'm kidding when I say there is a fascist agenda behind the promotion of AI. These devices are designed to kill literacy. We grew up in one of those rare periods of history where most people could read, and those who can read are harder to control.

I used this image by @benwildflower.com today in a sermon about the magnificat.
Afterwards someone came up and said "are you aware this is quite provocative?"

Today I had a zoom discussion with a Zimbabwean and someone from DRC about climate justice and Ubuntu. I was familiar with Ubuntu (if you're not, you're missing out!), I hadn't heard this quote:

I can never be what I ought to be until you are what you ought to be.
