The basic infrastructures that allow women to be participants in public life—birth control & abortion access, no fault divorce, childcare access & affordability, civil rights law in employment and public accommodations, the minimal efforts to mitigate sexual and domestic violence—are all crumbling.

Today (and every day) is a great day to provide support for those fighting back.

The NSFGRP is a wonderful program

I am deeply grateful for the work of NSF staff this year to keep research & grants moving in a difficult environment. I view this petition as a means to demonstrate impact & interest in ensuring access to a vital grad research program.

I repeat that whenever you see a man toss a woman around in front of witnesses and cameras, you can bet he’s had practice in private.

Wait, the axis goes from 1.6 to 2.1?!

UNC sociologist Barbara Entwisle told me there’s no guarantee the Independent Census Scientific Advisory Committee's recommendations will reach the Census Bureau: “So this is a bit of a risk. But turn it around. If we don't do this, then what? Then there is no feedback, no advice that’s out there.”

NEW: Members of the Census Bureau's scientific advisory committee that the Trump administration ended plan to meet on their own on Sept. 18 to discuss #2030Census privacy protections at their first public meeting as the newly formed Independent Census Scientific Advisory Committee

So it’s all just ok now? Is it? Brushed aside with an apology? And Lawrence Jones? His views are only slightly less noxious.

I feel compelled to point out that Lesotho =/= South Africa. Bloomberg should know this.

The Heritage Foundation specifically named contraception as a "culprit" for low birth rates. The pronatalist movement is using bad demography to cast low birth rates as inherently problematic and thus justify pronatalist efforts, like reducing access to contraception. 1/

Misinformation isn't random - it's strategic. 🧵

In the first cross-national comparative study, we examine 32M tweets from politicians.

We find that misinformation is not a general condition: it is driven by populist radical right parties.

FLAS funding allowed me to spend most of 2007 in Uganda working with a local university’s public health department on a healthcare financing study. That became my PhD focus, which led after grad school to a position in Nairobi with Population Council to scale the research in 5 countries.

Yes, we’re literally about to zero out funding for every Title VI area studies center at every university in the country, along with FLAS fellowship funding. A generation of human capital that feeds into our diplomatic & intelligence corps that will simply not exist. National security madness.

This new study shows: in Germany, it has become much harder for children to earn more than their parents, now about as hard as in the US: "parental income has become much more important for educational outcomes of children"

He is a rapist and fully espouses the subjugation of women. This comment is wholly unsurprising. Just disappointing.
