Listen. ONE of the reasons I rock with Dolly (Capricorn Gang) is because she’s always proven to me that integrity may cause you pain, but it will never be the reason you suffer. I'd add the stage show does skimp on explaining this in dialogue IMO, but the scene in the film overexplains and kills the pacing, so understand the adaptation choice

having seen it last night I think the issue is illegally misreporting losses to the IRS - I'd misremembered and it's clear the little old ladies don't mind (they are in court supporting him!), hence Leo's argument "who's actually been harmed here?" - but the Feds do very much care about tax fraud

Been a while but I read the film as, they were okay with throwing money away on sex but also you don't get to be a rich little old lady without noticing when your dividends are due, and if it were less of a BIG SMASH HIT that would have been less bad because they possibly just wouldn't have noticed

The film is pretty clear that they are *not* happy to invest without a bit of shagging in return, like basically they are paying him for sex and the theatrical investment is the polite cover - can't remember how much this is explicit in the musical (seeing it next week!)

a question I wish one (1) interviewer would ask, and keep asking until an answer was obtained, is: "and which specific beliefs of his do you agree with?"

if they can't name any, that's ok! just start reading quotes and asking "that one? no? this one?" make them say it with their mouths and faces

idk man if I had just lost my kid to a school shooting and the news cycle was dominated by people loudly mourning the loss of a guy whose life’s work was radicalizing people, largely children, into thinking that’s a cool and normal thing to do while contributing nothing else, I’d probably go insane
