Attempt number 3 because Bluesky ate the first one and I screwed up the last one. My name is Kevin, I make comics and write stories. I have two projects that I am working on currently:
First is Tales of Phantom Cay: a comic influenced by Eurocomics, Carl Barks, the Commedia dell'Arte, and Bone.

Despite being kinda silly (a lot of these animals don't even form groups) there is something very beautiful and poetic about them and I feel like Juliana Berners put a lot of thought into each one of them.
kevinforbesarts.bsky.social
Some of them are so beautiful, and some of them have become Innocuous. A Pride of Lions. Others aren't quite Innocuous but they are still very well known. A Parliament of Owls, a Business of Ferrets, a Clowder of Cats, a Murder of Crows, etc.

so I have been reading up on Terms of Venery (aka the collective nouns for animals in English, since English doesn't have a quick and easy way to turn "thing" into "bunch of thing" like stockade collonade etc.) They were mostly just made up by one Medieval Woman and they are both amazing and dumb.

17/20, The Son of Man, Rene Magritte, 1964
A painting of a sober-middle aged man, dressed like a banker in a bowler and coat, standing in front of the ocean on an overcast day. A green apple floats mysteriously in front of his face, completely obscuring it.

Oh wow I read more of that interview and Ari tried so hard to get David Simon to say some variant of "AI is okay for some stuff" and he would not do it.

BREAKING: Burger King workers are on strike in Oakland due to pregnancy discrimination.

The store cut our coworker’s hours because she is pregnant and asked for accommodations to ensure a safe pregnancy. 🧵

I feel like the "we have to sacrifice certain demographics in order to win elections" rhetoric would be more of an actual argument if Democrats did anything to win elections. They don't even run in half the states.

Depth, M.C. Escher, 1955
A print by MC Escher of Flying Fish, all having a sort of Star-shaped Pattern, flying in an endless shoal through the sea (or is it the sky.) I love this piece. I have based a starship design off of it, and I have a vague idea of using it as the basis of my imagining of a Taoist Concept in a future work. There is so much I could say.

Actually I changed my mind every single American should eat it once. Then maybe the Eighth Amendment to the US Constitution might have as many advocate groups as the First and Second.
kevinforbesarts.bsky.social
As far as I am concerned the only thing that anti-immigrants should be allowed to eat is Synthesized Food Gruel. Like Soylant or whatever (I was tempted to say Nutraloaf but literally nobody not even racists deserve Nutraloaf.)

I know this is said a lot but if you hate immigration, you can only eat the foods of your people prior to 1492. So for people of European descent that means not just no indigenous foods (no potatoes, no tomatoes, no corn), no Mexican food and no soul food either - there's no slavery exception clause

it's literally just fried dough it has no right to smell so good.

it's up on my end. Maybe it's just an issue with the mobile site?

show me a picture on your phone that has your energy that isn’t a selfie
A picture of a possum with a bunch of photoshopped stuff on it like flowers and a feather boa and sunglasses. It has the caption "I'm an acquired taste. If you don't like me acquire some taste!"

I know this is a pretty old trend because old comics and the Things You Never Knew Existed Catalog used to have ads for like bodybuilders who were aimed directly at teenage boys and would be like "You get bullied because you are a weenie but I will make you a REAL MAN." which is fucked up.

(I should add that comparing fascists to Don Quixote is surprisingly on brand because the pop culture version of him is "Dream the Impossible Dream No Matter What" but the actual character is more "The World is full of stuff that you will miss if you spend 100% of it with your head up your ass."

Trump: "If we didn't win this election. If we had these people that were running that were ruining our country, destroying our country with their open borders and men playing in women's sports and transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place ... I'm not sure we'd even have a country."

My statement on the two year anniversary of October 7, 2023.
“Two years ago today, Hamas carried out a horrific war crime, killing more than 1,100 Israelis and kidnapping 250 more. I mourn these lives and pray for the safe return of every hostage still held and for every family whose lives were torn apart by these atrocities.

In the aftermath of that day, Prime Minister Netanyahu and the Israeli government launched a genocidal war: adeath toll that now far exceeds 67,000; with the Israeli military bombing homes, hospitals, and schools into rubble. Every day in Gaza has become a place where grief itself has run out of language. I mourn these lives and pray for the families that have been shattered. Our government has been complicit through it all.

This must end. The occupation and apartheid must end. Peace must be pursued through diplomacy, not war crimes, and our government must act to end these atrocities and hold those responsible to account.

These last two years have demonstrated the very worst of humanity. We must answer it by modeling the very best: a relentless pursuit of our higher ideals and an unwavering commitment to universal human rights.”

At the Moulin Rouge, Henri de Toulouse-Lautrec, 1892
A gathering of various figures, male and female, inside a dim smoky room at the Moulin Rouge nightclub and brothel in Paris. Of note is the woman on the right with blond-hair and a ghost-like face, lit by dim lights.

I have two, I mostly use them to help with the writing process. One is a standard rider Waite deck. The other is black with silver colored lines.
