One thing I believe is that the sheer material affluence of the United States is part of the reason why we're in this mess (belief that water comes from the tap and that things really can't get that much worse) is also another reason why this administration is sowing the seeds of its destruction

I am again reminded why Atomic Bombing Discourse is the stupidest discourse that comes up regularly. It is a legitimately fascinating debate with plenty of nuance and no real clear answer, but online randos just use it to promote their political/ideological priors.
One of my favorite bits on social media is randos arguing with literal experts, people who have written books, articles, etc like they don’t know what they’re talking about
Even President Truman understood—on July 17, 1945, just one day after the Trinity test and well before any atomic bombs had been used—that the war with Japan would end once the Soviet Union invaded Japanese-occupied Manchuria and the home islands, an invasion we demanded our wartime ally undertake.

Ah, the USSR. Famously an example of the inevitability of socialism's triumph over capitalism.
Socialism will win by the way :)

One of the root causes of our problems today is that no one wants to actually do the work of a senator or rep, especially senators and reps.

And yet again, we only make national news for the absolute worst reasons.

Another thing I've noticed is that there's a strong assumption among many Democrats that public opinion is essentially a force of nature to be responded to, rather than something that can be created. Getting rid of this mentality is a prerequisite to solving the problem.
oh crazy, it is as if protests have consistently hurt trump since 2017
Brand-new polling from YouGov out this AM finds Trump's actions re: LA underwater. Double-digit disapproval on sending in Marines.

This should be a reality check for those people arguing the protests inherently help Trump bc his immigration approval # is positive.

It's really funny how there are worse ways of tracking the arc of conservative thought in the US by seeing what Tom Clancy is pissed off about in his writings. From the KGB mole who was an anti-Vietnam activist, to the not-Gorbachev General Secretary using arms control to cover for an offensive war.

I've seen like 3 ads on metro today for Substack. The last thing that we as a nation need is more DC-based Substack writers.

we need to think of 'abolishing ICE' as like 'abolishing the Wehrmacht.' Germany still needed an army. Americans will still want some kind of immigration and border authorities. But abolishing the culture, structures, and power-holders of a utterly corrupted and brutal system is important.

The order targeting the agencies, largely obscure entities that address issues like labor mediation and homelessness prevention, appeared to test the bounds of the president’s power.
