My biggest issue with this statement is that they were not protesting "the imposition of emergency measures..."

The emergency measures were imposed BECAUSE of their "protest." It is straight up gaslighting to suggest the use of the emergency act caused their behaviour and not the other way around.

Mr. Tough-on-Crime wishes the convoy leaders a peaceful and happy life.
@PierrePoilievre
Tamara Lich and Chris Barber peacefully protested the imposition of emergency measures that the Federal Court found to be unlawful and unconstitutional.

Instead of pursuing rapists, drug dealers and other monsters, the Crown sought lengthy prison sentences.

Justice Perkins-McVey rightly rejected the Crown's request, and sent Tamara and Chris home to their families.

We must get to a justice system that ensures the security and freedom of all Canadians.

I wish Chris and Tamara a peaceful and happy life.

Kinda weird that Mr. Jail-Not-Bail is wishing for the "freedom of all Canadians," but I've long given up expecting consistency from him.

"Her house arrest sentence shows that in Canada blocking roads is only a crime if you have the wrong politics"

THE CONVOY TOOK OVER DOWNTOWN FOR THREE WEEKS.

THEY TOOK THE WHEELS OFF THEIR TRUCKS TO MAKE THEM HARDER TO MOVE.

PRO-PALESTINE PEOPLE GO HOME AT THE END OF THE DAY.

IT'S DIFFERENT.

I can't wait for Conservatives to be consistent with previous tough-on-crime sentiments and demand jail time instead of house arrest.
That's going to happen, right?

Freedom Convoy leaders Chris Barber and Tamara Lich each get an 18-month conditional sentence; first 12 months to be served as house arrest. Judge cites principal of "deterrence and denunciation" of their activities.

Confirming what I think we all intuitively knew, Pierre Poilievre credits his time in high school debate club as being one of the most formative experiences in his life

The thing about oilsands companies is that over the past decade they have focused on cutting as many jobs as possible in the name of efficiency while paying as little as possible for the pollution they cause.

To add to @maxfawcett.bsky.social's facts, here is the data report from stophateab.ca. stophateab.ca/stophateab-c... It has pictures and graphs and charts, too.

The thing about these statistics is that we all know right-wing terrorism in the US still outpaces left-wing, including this year, but because it is being committed and officially sanctioned by the government now it isn't being counted.

One thing I've learned from the Internet is that a lie needs 0% proof to be believed, but the truth requires thousands of pages of proof and still won't be believed.

America is really having trouble understanding that they've bred a generation of people with poor impulse control and easy access to guns who will literally go out and commit a shooting for the lols, not because of any strongly held belief or political ideology.

Latest from NBC:

“He didn’t have strong feelings about ICE as far as I knew,” said Noah Jahn, Joshua’s older brother.

“I didn’t think he was politically interested,” he said. “He wasn’t interested in politics on either side as far as I knew.”

My pitch for what to do with Sidney Street in Belleville to make it safer without disrupting traffic and without the ASE cameras would involve bike lanes, but unfortunately Emperor Doug has outlawed those too.

I did a deep-dive into Ben Mulroney's extracurricular activities:

At the same time as Mulroney is filling-in as host of The West Block, he is also working for two registered lobby groups and as an adviser to several companies – some of whose CEOs he's interviewed on Global News 640 Toronto radio

Ben Mulroney is blurring the lines between journalism, business, lobbying and partisan politics

The new host of Global News’ national political news show also works for registered lobby groups, advises businesses and hosted election events for Pierre Poilievre’s Conservatives earlier this year

If you've had more than 7 years as official opposition to Doug Ford and the OLP has had less than 10 seats and hasn't been an official party most of that time, how have you consistently kept losing seats and popular support and how can anyone trust you can turn that around?
kylefromquinte.bsky.social
Is that not exactly what she promised when she was acclaimed as leader of the ONDP 3 years ago?
Is it not what Andrea Horwath promised when they became official opposition more than 7 years ago?
kylefromquinte.bsky.social
Marit Stiles got 68% in her leadership review and is going to remain leader of the Ontario NDP and promises they are going to learn from the last election and build a grassroots-led movement that can take on Doug Ford.
My question - haven't you been promising that for the last 7 years?

How I feel about Prime Minister Mark Carney depends on his governance decisions & actions as a leader. To be clear, I don’t care how he “performs” in the House of Commons compared to career politician Pierre Poilievre. I’ve been involved with governance a long time, and I’m not easily distracted.
brenttoderian.bsky.social
Heard many times tonight on CBC that Pierre Poilievre was clearly the most experienced politician among the party leaders as the House of Commons started up again today. I don’t think I heard them mention that it’s because he’s the one who’s never had ANY other job.

And still no security clearance.

83% of US adults haven't paid for news in the last year.

About half (49%) say their main reason is they can find plenty of free news elsewhere.
www.pewresearch.org/short-reads/...
Chart showing among the 83% of U.S. adults who have not paid for news in the past year, the most common reason they cite is that they can find plenty of other news articles for free. About half of those who don’t pay for news (49%) say this is the main reason.

Indeed, many news websites do not have paywalls. Others have recently loosened paywalls or removed them for certain content like public emergencies or public interest stories.

Another common reason people don’t pay for news is that they are not interested enough (32%). Smaller shares of Americans who don’t pay for news say the main reason is that it’s too expensive (10%) or that the news provided isn’t good enough to pay for (8%).
