Bunkers, music, lots of sweating. Ew!
Title of the Scene: DEAD SUN The walls of the bunker were quite narrow, filled with scribbles of graffiti and the sweat of everyone gave the sensation of a sauna of filth. The mass of bodies danced below the dim fluorescent lights at the beat of industrial EBM, its noise drowning everything else. This place was where they decided to hide, quickly mixing with the other regulars. The gang leader was very glad about the club rules; that and the noxious air of the place, since it meant it was required to wear a heavy gas mask to enter. The plan was to lay low for a couple of hours, those pigs from the Metro Police wouldn’t date to enter these types of clubs. Just in case, the leader ordered the rest to spread throughout the whole place. Leaning against the wall with a half drunken bottle in his hand, he tries not to draw any attention to himself. A stranger comes near him, by the size and outfit it looks to be a chick. She pulls his arm and starts to dance, she’s inviting him. He can’t see her face, her movements akin to someone zonked out of their mind, lost in the music. But his nose alerts him: her sweat, despite him wearing a gas mask, smells of someone who’s completely sober. His eyes hover over the girl’s outfit, looking for a strap or a fold on the clothes, before suddenly smelling aggression. She stops dancing, and in a split second she pulls a gun from her jacket and points it at him: Shit, it’s a raid. Having anticipated the move, the leader knocks the undercover officer and kicks the pistol off her reach. This is bad, can’t stay here; if the feds had come here, they could be quarantining the entire zone right now.

Going fishing with the gang! But there also seems to be something else on the waters...
Title of the Scene: DONT LET ME DOWN None of them have tried to catch something this big. The carp's shadow on the water was going faster than the banged-up van, and they were going at 60km/hr. The girl struggles to put the fish between the sights of the harpoon, it didn't help that the van was bouncing on the stone road. She had to relax, she can't afford to miss. Her noisy partner pops his head out the window and bangs the top of the car. –What are you waiting for?! Shoot! She jumps, started, almost pressed the trigger right then and there. –Are you stupid? Don't distract me. Why don't you keep an eye out and see if no one's following us. The boy signs and returns to his seat. She wonders why the road, mainly a straight line around the shore of the great lake, has so many potholes and loose rocks. But that doesn't matter right now, she needs to hit the giant carp before it escapes or dives deeper. Despite the wind in her face, the bumpy ride and doubts; she breathes in, and remembers her dad's training. BAM! In a second, the harpoon dives into the water and hits the carp dead center. The low roaring of the cannon echoing throughout the valley. The carp begins to submerge, attempting to escape. With her heel she bangs the top of he van, code for the driver to start pulling now. Exemplifying a finesse worthy of a true carp fisher, he lowers the speed of the vehicle and does a maneuver to shift into reverse with full power. She has to grab to the railing welded into the van to not fall. She feels proud for managing to hit such a fast and big target. But she catches a glimpse of something, at the edge of her view a shadow swims in the direction of the carp. Despite the size difference, it goes at a rapid pace, faster than the fish did. Cold sweat forms on her brow, the metahuman is barreling towards them like a speedboat. They need to run.

Awkward family reunion. Extra awkward since one of them is soggy.
Scene Title: SOUL LOVE The cold droplets of rain were making the windows a little bit cloudy. The young fashionista was glad for having splurged on the heating for their small apartment. The frigid showers of fall made the night landscape of the city look quite more gloomy than normal. The kettle on the stove began to boil, its whistling of steam pulling them out of their thoughts. They stand up from the couch and stretch. It had been a long day at the salon and the only thing in their mind right now was getting to relax until ten if possible. They look at their nails, magenta, a shade a notch too bright to their usual liking, contrasting against the pale skin. They go to the stove, turns it off, lowers a cup from the cupboard and the small tin which they keep their tea bags. Today the crave is jasmine, the flavor is nostalgic despite its bitterness. Suddenly, the doorbell starts ringing. It's almost nine, not even the nosy neighbor would dare to bother them this late. With a very visible grimace across their face, they decide to open up the door, see who it is and what they want (as quickly as possible if need be). When they open the door, they find it's their teenage cousin, drenched head to toe and carrying a backpack. It's been a while since they saw each other, last time was three years ago at their uncle's birthday. Because of the large age gap, they didn't talk much, and she seems to be alone. – Why are you here? Where are your parents? The girl tucks out a wet tuft of hair from her face. Her melancholic expression indicates that the answer to those questions would take all night. Their lips became a fine line, the feeling of guilt leaving her there triumphing over the awkwardness of reconnecting with family. – Come in then. Want something warm? Pt.2 (because it's too many words for Bluesky alt text) The girl enters the room with heavy footsteps. She drops the waterlogged backpack on the floor, slightly annoying the fashionista who would have to mop that spot again. Rubbing her hands she feels the warmth returning to her. – Jasmine. Jasmine tea. The fashionista is glad that they weren't the only weirdo in the family who liked it. They might have an idea as to why she would come to them directly. Nonetheless, it was going to take the entire night to properly get to the bottom of this. At least they would have someone to share the tea with.

Easy job, easy money! The jazz here still sucks though...
Title of scene: LOCOMOTIVE It was an easy job, that’s what they told him. Target was the owner of the local factory, a tin mogul who manufactured from dog food cans to ship containers. Supposedly he had information on who was behind the forgery on the ledgers. In front of the door that led to the food cart, his partner lifted his veil and puts a cigarette on his mouth, meanwhile he was fitting his opera mask. The Miss’s instructions were pretty clear: No one gets to see your face. He opens the door and they enter. The lights were too bright, the jazz music a little too loud, the smell of coffee mixing with the stench of Cuban cigars. His partner tries for the fourth time to fire up his lighter, so he snatches his cigarette, crushes it up in his hand and throws it away. He clicks his tongue in response and pockets the lighter. There aren’t many customers around, some in the cubicles and two sitting at the bar. The henchmen walk with measured steps, looking straight ahead. The people in the cart began looking away from the two tall and burly men dressed from tip to toe in black suits. The air thickens all around them, while the jazz keeps playing through the train speakers. They both arrive at a private stall in the mid section of the cart. The door is closed, but the laughing chatter and the clanking of plates and cutlery is heard clearly. He looks at the window directly in front of the door, the darkness of the night looks infinite, the luminosity of the wagon making it impossible to look at the forest passing by. He turns his gaze upon his partner, who with an unusual gentleness knocks and leans on the doorframe. As he does the same the voices become quiet. He feels the shape of the gun in his hands, a Walter PPK, with its barrel pointing at head level. The henchman thinks he should thank the Miss for giving him such a simple job, to the point. Now all that's left is waiting. Just waiting.

What if you see a face in the bark of a tree?
Main title that reads "unconnected short stories" Title of the scene: MY COUNTRY The first shimmers of daybreak are seen in the horizon. The young soldier, equipped with sable and rifle, smothers the remaining embers of the fire pit. An old priestess grabs the steel teapot and throws the dregs tea into the snow around. The smell of chamomile and cinnamon fills the air of the small encampment. Out of the tent the two remaining soldiers of the quad come out, wearing heavy coats and rifles at their back. Slender branches of twisted trees filter the pale sunlight. They look like hundreds of arms trying to grab the pink clouds of the morning sky. The soldier swears he can see a human face from one of the tree trunks. The priestess, with her small silver cane and lapis handle, hits him lightly on the head. -It’s rude to stare. Go and look if there’s any tracks around. Her voice is weak, but raspy and sharp. The poor cadet gets up and walks towards the treeline. He should have never accepted the job; everyone knows that witchguards never get to enjoy the fortune they get payed. There are no old witchguards, not even close to the years that crone would have.
