also some science is fucking settled. it's idiotic to pretend otherwise.
“Science is never settled” sounds reasonable—but it’s often a rhetorical trick to undermine consensus on issues like vaccines or climate change.
Science evolves, but some things are overwhelmingly supported by evidence.

One of the reasons I love retro-SF futures is because they speak to this increasing trend of turning shit off and disconnecting devices. When AWS goes down and bricks your bed, fridge, and thermostat, the appeal of analog is keenly felt.

This video from Portland is a metaphor for what is going on in America. ICE trying so hard to get Americans to cross a line and if they don't, dragging them across the line and violently attacking.

This administration is flooding the zone so furiously that people have largely lost track of the lethal attacks on boats in the Caribbean, the gov’t shutdown, the economy, failed release of the Epstein files & so much else. It’s a tactic of would-be strongmen.

TERRORISM EXPERT HERE:

This statement is a clear example of what is known as “State Terrorism”: When the dictatorship will order all instruments of its state security & intelligence apparatus against its own citizens to terrorize the population.

The US forgets its actions have consequences beyond the borders, these people see only internal "threats" to the regime and forget the rest of the world exists as independent nations and peop'ew
This is quickly mushrooming into a real international incident

The Governor of Utah said, “America is broken.” It’s one of the few things he’s said that I agree with. But he doesn't have ideas to fix it.

Well, I have an idea. It might not solve everything, but it would go a long way toward fixing a lot: demonetize political speech on the Internet.

The #GOP is going to keep punching us in the face constantly.

If we don't punch back, we're "pussies".
If we do punch back, we're the radical left destroying America.

They're never going to applaud our restraint or our reaction.

We can't behave to please them.
We can behave to protect our nation.

The post-doc in my lab, who recieved his PhD in the US, and had planned to stay here to teach... Has decided to remain in China for a teaching job rather than return here (after an unnaturally lengthy visa approval process... 🤔). Beautifully concise example of the downfall of science here.

The withholding of $6.8 billion to elementary/secondary schooling is a reminder that everything we take for granted, the basic skills of a functioning educated person, is under threat. Technofascism will thrive among a population of young people barely able to comprehend the word outside the phone.

Buy guns. Don’t be stupid with them. Get trained, it’s more than “learning to shoot”. Learn how to properly handle, clean, store and transport them.

Two basic principles: never point it at anything you don’t intend to destroy and it’s not a tool for threats, if you point at something—kill it!
They’re detaining US citizens, arresting judges, and subpoenaing journalists because they want to scare us into silence about their authoritarian agenda. It’s not going to happen. Let’s show them what we’re made of.

And at NIH?? Heath sciences NEED diversity to be good research, science is always political. The boards that review determine what projects are important enough to be funded... This harms the health of everyone who isn't a white man.
Thirty-eight of 43 experts cut last month from the boards that review the science and research that happens in laboratories at the National Institutes of Health are female, Black or Hispanic, according to an analysis by the chairs of a dozen of the boards.

Today I'm finding out which people believe that if you're part of a population that is a small overall percentage of humans on the planet, it's okay to strip you of rights.

I wonder if they have considered how easy it would be to classify *them* into a small overall percentage, and do it to them.
