How many times have we been fed BS.about a Trump "pivot" away from extremism? Accepting the BS again, at this time of national emergency, would not only be gullible, but gravely dangerous
I'm calling bullshit on the media narrative that Trump is "pivoting" and "deescalating" on his ICE raids. The threshold is this: As long as the military occupations and the treatment of US cities as enemy territory continue, there's no pivot. ICE out. 1/

Donald Trump Is Frightened
Trump wants to appear eager to minimize out-of-control clashes between government militias and protesters. But he doesn’t want to stop the things causing those clashes in the first place.

Notable that POTUS is posting a Fox News story about the USCG disabling and interdicting a vessel suspected of carrying drugs.

Demonstrates his awareness of alternatives to blowing up suspected drug boats.

And that killing people is very much a deliberate and completely unnecessary choice.

I’m not sure what’s scarier, the thought of someone in full possession of his mental faculties speaking coherently about nullifying free speech, or the same sentiment filtered through a clearly addled mind and emerging as this garbled nonsense.

This is verbatim. This is our President.
Trump: "We took the freedom of speech away because that's been through the courts and the courts said you have freedom of speech, but what has happened is when they burn a flag it agitates and irritates crowds."

A sitting US Senator, who also happens to be a Nazi, gave a remarkably anti-American speech today, oddly and ironically focused on the defining characteristics of an American.

See how many dog whistles and outright racist tropes you can identify.

The choice to support Ukraine is a simple one. It has always been a simple one. And the beauty of it is that even the so-called “America First” crowd should be able to get behind it, for obvious and selfish reasons that Congressman Quigley lays out here in stark and simple terms.(1/2)
Quigley: Trump acts like a tough guy when it comes to going after some undocumented kid, but when he comes up against someone tougher than him, this president is a wimp.

This is right. We don't have the language to describe what we're seeing right before our eyes. That contributes to the disorienting effect it's all having, which I think people like Stephen Miller, who expressly uses the language of fascism as a weapon, understand perfectly well.

So thrilled to see this icon get its due. My mind reels at the thought of such a gem ever being consigned to the dustbin of history.
Fifty years ago, last-ditch effort in Syracuse barely saved magnificent Landmark Theatre. Those who remember how close it was savor what's happening now: A 30-color restoration of grand auditorium. My Central Current column with stunning Mike Greenlar images: centralcurrent.org/sean-kirst-a...

“Democracy Dies in Darkness”

Indeed. Another light goes out at WaPo. R.I.P Washington Post. You’ve been a stalwart companion for many years, particularly your opinion section. I mourn your loss daily.
"How can we communicate with optimism about the future … when we're living in the here and now where American democracy is in peril? … And we're supposed to ignore it? Leave it to others to wrestle with …? No no no no no. …

The Supreme Court is out of control. To allow the president, without any explanation, to unilaterally dismantle agencies created by an Act of Congress is to endow the president with sovereignty. There is no justification, because they haven’t given one. Our country is in big trouble.
BREAKING: The Supreme Court allows the Trump administration to move forward with the abolition of the Department of Education. It gives no explanation for its order. All three liberals dissent. www.documentcloud.org/documents/25...

The consequences of this decision, dire as they are, alone warrant an explanation from the Court, but the readily apparent inconsistency on display positively demands it.
My quick take on Monday afternoon's unexplained #SCOTUS ruling in the Department of Education downsizing case—and how the justices' inconsistent treatment of the (similarly postured) student loan cases during the Biden administration illustrates in technicolor why the Court needs to explain itself:
167. The Inconsistent Court Strikes Again
Comparing Monday's unexplained grant of emergency relief in the Department of Education downsizing case to how the justices handled President Biden's student loan program is ... telling.

100% to this. Act like you have core beliefs that are not subject to focus groups. They allow you to speak from a position of both moral authority and clear conviction. And you can then embrace compromise *if* necessary, as long as the compromise is in service of the value you're defending.
Great point from @amandamarcotte.bsky.social: If Dems want to win back young men, one approach might be to stand up for what you believe. Even when, or especially when, they disagree with you.
