November 2024 marks the 5th anniversary of the publication of my first book “Fair Trade Rebels.” I am damn proud of this book a really had very little opportunity to celebrate it or even really talk about it, because we all know what 2020 brought. So, I’m giving it an anniversary thread.

So, starting today, from the front matter of the book:

Crisis between the Ordinary and Eventful: Housing, Material Conditions, and Everyday Urbanism

But also repair, care, solidarity.

Some problems have simple solutions. This new “Compact for Academic Excellence in Higher Education” is one. The answer is simply saying no.

Simple does not mean easy. But Brown, Dartmouth, MIT, Vanderbilt, Univ of AZ, UPenn, USC, UT Austin & UVA must understand what they’ll lose if they sign on.

During my town hall, someone asked me what they could do to stand up to authoritarianism.

Despite what the cynics say, you have power. All it takes is one person speaking up for somebody else. It is small acts that can change the course of this country.
