I was today years old when I learned that Picasso overlapped in time with both Charles Darwin and Eminem. True fact.

Is it time for Hippo Discourse? I love a good Hippo convo on social media!

As a paleontology enthusiast I always find it funny how pop culture constantly describes large herbivorous dinosaurs as "gentle giants" when most of our current living herbivorous megafauna are some of the most physically dangerous and temperamental creatures on the planet.

horses can SERIOUSLY injure you with their jaws - do not ever antagonize enormous animals with opinions

"What does seventy million years mean to beings who live only one-millionth as long? We are like butterflies who flutter for a day and think it is forever."

We taught our children about the walrus & his bucket and they reference it often. 😄

Today is #GivingDayForApes. I chose 6 organizations to donate to this year, but there are many more in need.
If you've spent any time this past week appreciating Jane Goodall's work & legacy, supporting these causes is a great way to honor her memory!

"In the time it would have taken an orangutan mother to raise two offspring—from 1999 to 2015—half of the island’s orangutans had died."

Lovely surprise to open my newest @smithsonianmag.bsky.social & find this article celebrating the work of BOSF. #Orangutans need all the help we can give them!

"I Contain Multitudes"

This digitally painted piece honors coyote by tracing its lineage from the first cells of life to the animal trotting our cities and the wilderness today.

The thread gives descriptions of all the extinct organisms shown in this piece (not to scale)
This digitally painted piece honors the survivor spirit of the coyote by tracing its lineage from the first cells of life to the animal trotting our landscapes today. Below the horizon, carefully chosen ancestors mark pivotal moments in adaptation, each contributing to the form and survivor we see today. Above the horizon, Coyote stands alert at the center, framed by both Denver’s skyline and a mountain backdrop, symbols of their ability to thrive in cities as well as wilderness. Embedded in the ground are the skulls and bones of carnivores whose lineages ended long ago, emphasizing Coyote’s persistence in contrast.

Wow. #Peacemaker with all *kinds* of expectation subversion in the newest ep. Very well done.

24. Secrets of a Charmed Life by Susan Meissner. I liked this one: a tale of 2 sisters in WWII London, framed by a parallel contemporary story. I wish it hadn't all wrapped up in such a tidy bow, but the theme of regret especially was poignant.

23. Furiously Happy by @thebloggess.bsky.social. Another re-read, and it was just as glorious the second time around. JL is genuine, hilarious, insightful, and generally makes me want to befriend her so we can hang out & eat pie together & take Rory on fun adventures.
