I just keep opening them until it crashes. Normally around the 100 mark.

I've gone from a Chinese EV to a German one and well, the German one is much, much better.

This is on all Americans, not just the government.

The elimination of USAID is a moral atrocity and all involved made a choice to enable, and then lie about, ending the lives of some of the most vulnerable people in the world.
MAE SOT, Thailand (AP) - Mohammed Taher clutched the lifeless body of his 2-year-old son and wept. Ever since his family's food rations stopped arriving at their internment camp in Myanmar in April, the father had watched helplessly as his once-vibrant baby boy weakened, suffering from diarrhea and begging for food.
On May 21, exactly two weeks after Taher's little boy died, U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio sat before Congress and declared: "No one has died" because of his government's decision to gut its foreign aid program. Rubio also insisted: "No children are dying on my watch."
That, Taher says, "is a lie."

I suspect the problem could be reduced by having a properly funded research sector and looser controls on the immigration of individuals in that sector...

Kemi is slurring her words. She doesn't normally.

He also doesn't understand alliteration because that's presumably an attempt at it

For somebody who claims to be supportive of Jewish communities he has zero understanding of what side his arguments would be on in 19th and 20th century British debates about Jews and integration.

No, it's not. It's all a lie. The blunt truth is across the 1991, 2001, 2011 and 2021 Census *every* ethnic group in the UK has become *less* geographically segregated and *all* groups, majority and minorities, are more likely to interact with people not like them.

Outstanding piece by Stephen Daisley.

Ethnicity is no barrier to Britishness - it's culture and integration.

That means 'smaller cohorts and aggressive integration policies' - and tackling the institutions that 'have amplified grievance narratives and radical anti-Western ideologies'.
leithmotive.bsky.social
It's worse. There are no intellectuals involved anymore. The right wing, here and globally, makes a feature of rejecting evidence and analysis and views those in the business of intellectual inquiry, in universities, in popular culture, in the media as an enemy to be subjugated.
jamesdaustin.bsky.social
This is my basic theory for a lot of what is going on with the centre right atm

The ideas failed utterly and now there is a total crisis of intellectual confidence
indy.bsky.social
It nags at me that people are dancing around the fact that one reason centre-right think-tanks are in an intellectual crisis moment is because we've spent over a decade where lots of their ideas were tried out and didn't pan out as advertised.

This is Trump refusing to comply with a law he passed simply because he's a petty monstwr out for revenge against people he doesn't like and the USA is entirely incapable of standing up to him and his government. A weak, degenerate nation. They deserve it. We don't.

It is also deeply unhealthy to have local govts who don’t provide many visible/valuable services for most residents (because they lack the resources). Encourages distrust and populism - “what am I paying my council tax for? The council does nothing for me.”
stephenkb.bsky.social
Amazed this is still going ahead - basic and obvious problem is that essentially everything local government does now is for the poor. You can’t move it around without really hurting poor people somewhere!
cjayanetti.bsky.social
Some of London’s poorest areas could see their share of the children’s services funding formula halved under Labour’s plans to reform local government grants.

The worst thing about this is not that Jenrick is a racist, but that Kemi is so braindead and unaware of the consequences that she is using her position as a black woman not even to downplay it, but to fuel the sentiments behind it.
worgztheowl.bsky.social
A point about Jenrick's comments that may be missed as are so obnoxious. Handsworth, the place he talks of is majority "BAME" (the term in the stats, soz). But is a mix! It's around a 25% split of Indian/Pakistani background. 10% Bangladeshi, 10% white, 10% Afro-Caribbean.
leithmotive.bsky.social
Has Jenrick always been racist or did he become one because it was convenient to do so?
leithmotive.bsky.social
Cultural thing - it would be self evident to people in south asia?

Oh he's very much in the same box as Adams, and like Adams, although less direct than him, there's a massive dose of Python like abusurdism in his humour. He's just a very identifiable sort of English humourist.

She fits the bill for a standard fan, into computers, atheist, online since dial up... Pratchett has only recently been retconned to be ultra liberal. It's certainly not in his books where he comes across as an uptight humanist.

And loads of people get trapped at the top of their grade but doing work above it because institutions don't want to increase their salary costs...
