Sharing this update provided to me directly about the state of NLM and the future of NNLM, traveling exhibits, and, somehow, MedlinePlus.

I am so worried for friends and colleagues, and I'm stuck on that, but it is hard to not want to scream WTF about a MedlinePlus with no new material.

Citation Contamination by Paper Mill Articles in Systematic Reviews of the Life Sciences

- 299 reviews included retracted fakes (0.15%); increasing with time
- Oncology is the most affected field (shocking!)
- ~ 1/3 of citations happened after retraction

More firings at the National Cancer Institute, including the Cancer Information Service, “which provides answers to doctors and patients about cancer, and updates to databases summarizing cancer information for healthcare providers”.

I mean who needs it, right?

Deeply saddened that the ENTIRE TEAM at NCI PDQ Cancer Information has been eliminated.

Our evidence-based summaries were updated throughout the year with the latest research and supported informed decision making between clinicians & patients with cancer across the US. 🇺🇸

Meanwhile, DOJ lawyers are threatening medical journals for not providing adequate "viewpoint diversity" and for misinforming their readership, which I suppose means not publishing enough of the stupid shit that RFK Jr., JB, etc. keep saying.

This is an outrageous First Amendment violation.

This is probably useful for non-US researchers as well.

Since so many things are stored on US servers, or done in collaboration.

Also keep PDF copies of your publications.
Hi! Are you a US researcher who spent time thinking about humans? Then your work is in danger of censorship and loss. I'm here to walk you through basic self-archiving.

Maybe you think I am being hyperbolic. You only worked on bacteria! Not your problem. Do me a favor and join me anyway.

In my post about PubMed, I raised concern about what might happen with the committee that decides what journals are PubMed-indexed. They could open the anti-science/pseudoscience floodgates.

This is the message now where the committee should be. Gulp

NIH has rescinded its scientific integrity policy. Hard to see this as anything other than clearing the way for shoddy research on things like vaccines. Regardless of the rationale, it's bad news for public health.
