Last night I could not put this book down. The opening chapter is 🤯 and the final chapters full of great ideas about what we can collectively do to ensure women & underrepresented groups stay in science. We need diversity in science as diversity breeds discovery

Documenting what has been lost... and what still could be found with a renewed commitment to science in America.

Today my @nytimes.com colleagues and I are launching a new series called Lost Science. We interview US scientists who can no longer discover something new about our world, thanks to this year‘s cuts. Here is my first interview with a scientist who studied bees and fires. Gift link: nyti.ms/3IWXbiE

One of the bravest things you can do is to admit you need help & to seek it out. One of my best friends did just that today & I throw all the love her way as a small way to help get her through this challenging time.

Incredibly happy and proud to share our newest work in
Science Transl Med showing that Aβ promotes neuronal hyperconnectivity, thereby driving tau spread across connected brain regions. Many thanks to first authors @sebroemer.bsky.social and Fabian Wagner!

climbing up the ladder at 2am -what could go wrong?
liisagalea.bsky.social
This would be a new definition of hell

This was our scenario. Except 5/6 went off. Albeit delayed by 10 min. The 6th we preemptively removed.

I mean. 1 seems more grounded in science but I’m going with 2 - just to keep with the present global situation

Seriously. I’m going with a 24h battery store conspiracy.

I’m just wondering why smoke alarms decide to tell you their batteries need replacing at 2 AM?

I had great time with @laura-sofia-s.bsky.social and Maria Teresa Ferretti talking about the imp of sex/gender and sex-specific effects on dementia and AD. We talked about challenges & barriers of doing this work and why we think it’s the fastest way towards personalised medicine in AD.

I don't know where this revisionism has come from about the suffragettes - people saying "if the suffragettes were around today, they'd be considered terrorists."

The suffragettes were arrested and tortured, sexually assaulted and beaten by the state. They *were* considered terrorists!

Jane Goodall understood better than most the impact humans have had on the planet. Having witnessed so much environmental deterioration during her lifetime, she was as much an activist as a scientist.

Read our piece from 2024 on the legendary primatologist. 💚
Jane Goodall Thinks It’s Not Too Late to Save the World
The world, the famed primatologist says, isn’t what it used to be—but there’s still time to save it, if we treat crises like climate change, biodiversity loss, and poverty as one.
