How I lamely fumbled in slow-motion to catch this boy racer before he torched the pelican crossing.

An unfiltered square shot of E River at Williamsburg bridge, during regional bushfires of 2015 which cast a smoke haze across the city. The whole sepia palette is lit up in the top diagonal cnr by the setting evening sun. In the fire ground, the rich red of a truck crossing the bridge towards the lens, vainly punches through the light to little effect. The eerie eve is compounded by a lack of traffic save the truck at one of the busiest times of day. In the far shot you can make out the World Trade Centre (center 🤪)

A portrait orientation shot, early evening, of one of the canals/water inlets in Strasbourg which seem to be everywhere (in Strasbourg 😏) in the fore, the slightly rippled water reflects a blue sky partly covered with highly contrasted clouds. The water also reflects the trees and buildings on both banks. Strangely the river reflects the building on the right, some type of apartment residence, while the camera view of it directly is blocked by a tumbling shrub or ivy. At the farthest point you can make out a computed patchwork of lime wash and timber houses in the colours of the region, blue, pink, cream. A tall spruce or fir points to the sky on the left bank. A complex picture remarkably still, save for a couple slowly walking along the left bank.

A tiny residential piazza in mid afternoon, shot portrait, black and white. Nothing is even nor symmetrical. A cobble forecourt dusted by fallen autumn leaves, gives way to and iron fences portion of lawn, boundaries further by a stone wall bedecked with shrub and ivy. To the right a french style three storey with rural style window shutters, which due vignette seems to lean in the same direction as an adorable tree that’s dealing with the sun and with physics. It fans out like the capillaries of an eyelid or a soft dogs ear. Yes my writing is a little floral today that’s France for you. x

It’s the front of Strasbourg Cathedral if you hurt your neck a bit.

Two green metal doors, slender and tall (guessing 24 ft) point towards the most stunning and detailed typaneum and archivolts, full of statues and reliefs of male and female characters in various states of emotional distress. The doors are flanked by 5 characters each side (guessing apostles or saints) and with christ on a slender central pillar between the doors. Beyond the arches multiple crockets as thin slender leaves (or spikes) form a structure similar to organ pipes. The whole results is a stocky, strong structure formed from multiple delicate pieces in red stone- lending a pink hue which changes colour as the day changes. They could do this in 1489 - blows my mind.

Football in the 80s was frequently violent and, especially in the first part of the decade, awash with racism. These were not halcyon days, especially for non-white Britons.

Consider football: the rough and tumble of our national game is nothing new for the West Midlands. Growing up in the eighties, my Dad took me to more than a few matches at Villa Park in the away end. The language, chants, and antics were - at times - less than well-mannered. But it was largely good-natured fun. Where there was violence, the police put a quick but firm end to it. Such was the rhythm of British life. The same men and women worked together all week, turning up and supporting different teams on a Saturday.
