Glad to see we’re united against the “compact.” For one, I love USC’s cosmopolitanism. I’m proud to have directed dissertations by students from Africa, Asia, Europe, Latin America and the U.S., and every term I love having awesome students from China, India, and many other places. Fight on!

The Academic Senate called a special meeting Monday for faculty to provide input on the demands.

Or 3? (It looks like Russell Berman’s term expired.) It’s gut-wrenching to see our government’s abandonment and destruction of the humanities, and of humanity, at the same time. They are connected.

This case … squarely presents the issue whether non-citizens lawfully present here in United States actually have the same free speech rights as the rest of us.”

“The Court answers this Constitutional question unequivocally ‘yes, they do’.

Only an administration intent on committing war crimes in the present and future would stoop to calling Wounded Knee a "battle" rather than what it truly was: a massacre of over 250 Lakotas, mainly women, children, and the elderly. 1/

“What’s so striking here...is that this is allegedly all about antisemitism, & almost nothing in the demand letter is actually about addressing antisemitism nor does it even reference or discuss all the things that universities have done to address alleged antisemitism.”

The #Ohio Democrats' proposed maps are very impressive

They follow all aspects of our state Constitution (novel concept) but would also create districts that are ACTUALLY FLIPPABLE by BOTH PARTIES!

We could hold our legislators accountable! 🥹

Ohio State University must permit students to think critically, speak boldly, and dissent without fear of expulsion, even if the viewpoints expressed are offensive to the Trump administration, or to the sensibilities of the majority.

See you in court.

The rampant violations of academic freedom and intrusions on extramural speech are escalating rapidly. Faculty members have the right to speak or write as citizens, free from institutional censorship or discipline. Expression of opinion as a citizen does not constitute grounds for dismissal.

Today, VP Vance told Americans to get their neighbors fired for speaking negatively about #CharlieKirk

The government can't (yet) arrest you for #FreeSpeech, so they're pressuring your employers & neighbors to punish you instead

Their goal is to create a culture where we're afraid to speak freely

Here’s the question for Ohio:
👉 Why haven’t Mike Carey, Mike Turner, or Warren Davidson signed the petition yet?
If they believe in transparency and accountability, there should be nothing stopping them from joining.

You need to know what might be coming.

Trump could have brought the nation together to confront political violence after the murder of Charlie Kirk.

Instead he appears to be preparing to use the shooting as a pretext to destroy his political opposition and consolidate power.

“41 states allow permitless open carry, and nearly 30 allow permitless concealed carry. This trajectory leads to a society where firearms could be everywhere, and where neither officers nor ordinary citizens can tell the difference between a law-abiding gun owner and the next shooter.”- Nick Suplina
Opinion | How open carry laws make securing Charlie Kirk-style events more difficult
In open-carry states, police can’t easily distinguish between a person legally carrying a weapon and someone preparing to commit violence.

These firings, with zero due process, are violations of widely accepted principles of academic freedom & are completely unacceptable. College & university administrators MUST NOT exploit these shocking events to censor protected speech & concentrate their own power.

I know there’s a lot going on but just days ago our government dropped a bomb on a boat killing everyone on board. They said a whole lot of stuff about why they did it without producing any evidence.

And now no one is talking about it.

That’s messed up. We can’t let them sweep this under the rug.

I agree—and I imagine you’re joking, Stephanie, but this sounds like you *don’t* need a sabbatical because you can get all that research done on top of being chair! Amazing, but don’t ruin it for the rest of us who can’t! 😂 The argument is usually: I have to get back to my own work
