Winston Peters' transphobia is back in the news, so here's our recently published (open access) research on recent moral panics about gender in Aotearoa.

Funny what people reserve their outrage for.
A. Children getting blown to bits in cold blood?
B. Scootering into an RAF base to spray some paint on a plane?
Decisions, decisions ....

We're talking about a group actively planning to attack RAF bases. As an ex-RAF serviceman, that's going too far. No way will I support or accept any such thing.

Exactly. We’re used to his attacks which are totally inane but also dangerous. But this one on Anaru really pisses me off.

Luxon on RNZ equating billionaires with hard work. There is not one LivingWageEmployer on the rich list, the govt has stolen the chance of decent pay from 300,000+ actual hard working women, & the PM wants to celebrate the folks who don’t want to pay their fair share of tax or decent wages.

"Billionaire" isn't a qualification. It's the description of a person who is hoarding more resources than they could use in 100 lifetimes while other people are starving. It's the name for a human dragon sleeping on its pile of rubies and gold.

If your business model doesn’t work without breaking the law, then you’re not in business.

You’re in organized crime.

Not paying authors and other creative artists for use of their work will kill them! 💀 ⚰️ ⚱️

Using Intellectual Property requires Consent, Acknowledgement and Payment. There are authors dying of medical conditions they can't afford to treat, and suffering from lack of payment by #AI thieves!

#nzpol The pay equity decision today – just before Mothers Day – takes employment law back decades. It will likely impact the earnings of hundreds of thousands of women, often working in some of the most poorly paid work. It will cost us all in the long-run. A 🧵 www.beehive.govt.nz/release/chan...

Part of what really disturbs me about the sudden end of pay equity is the democratic implications - National did not say before the election that they would do this. It is now being passed under urgency, the same day as announcement, with no public input. NZers quite simply have not had a say.

The government will save billions through this decision. But we should be clear that this is money that has come directly out of the pockets of low-paid female workers. I didn’t think the National Party would stoop this low to pay for it’s tax cuts. www.rnz.co.nz/news/politic...
