The shift in Europe is part of a wider pattern: groundwater is depleting in parts of the Middle East, Asia, South America, along the US west coast + across swathes of Canada, Greenland, Iceland + Svalbard. We need to act now to preserve what is becoming an increasingly scarce resource.

There's absolutely no restrictions on what goes into an illegal landfill which means no control on what seeps out of them into water, soil + air. We've heard reports of substances like asbestos at illegal sites, others of waste burning + acrid smoke.

What an extraordinarily stupid thing to believe (if, in fact, he actually believes it) - unless by 'peace deal', he simply means Ukraine surrendering
“I told the president that the Russian Federation has always wanted a peace deal. That’s my belief. [...] And I believe the issue is is that we have two nations that are having a hard time coming to a compromise,” Witkoff told Kremlin aide Yuri Ushakov.

In 2021 Good Law Project went for an Orwell Prize for uncovering the Covid PPE VIP lane - an issue which helped bring down the last Government. We didn't even get shortlisted - one of the judges was a Director General under the last Government working on... the Covid response. 😂
I’m a past winner of the Orwell Prize & won partly because I exposed Vote Leave’s unlawful activities.

Michael Gove was its co-convener & refused to answer a single q. He’s now a judge of the prize & our world is truly one that Orwell would recognise

Our insurance costs (home, health and auto) have gone up substantially this year. The increase is equivalent to some people's mortgages. I don't know how people are surviving this. Talking a lifetime of frugality being erased by greed.

At 3AM, November 17, 1973, "The Colonels" sent a tank crashing through the gates of the Athens Polytechnic. It had been occupied by students protesting the fascist junta. Dozens died, mostly teens, 20s and one boy of 5. Over 2,000 were injured.

The protests it sparked brought down the dictatorship.
