An experimental tabletop games publisher. "Some of you know me already. Those of you who don't are in for a great, big fuckin' surprise. Those of you who do can expect an infinitely more horrible time than they care to remember!"

What the hell. I pledged $800 to a tabletop gaming Kickstarter described as a “miniature bonanza”. This is what I just got in the mail:
A miniature copy of the card game Bohnanza.

This is what it feels like when somebody complains an entry in Tiny Library 'isn't even a real game'.

TFW you paid $1400 to see Beckett’s most famous work without knowing anything about it
One Star Review of Waiting for Godot on Broadway
I recently attended Waiting for Godot on Broadway and spent over $1,400 for two Row C seats (103 and 104). I'm a longtime admirer of Broadway productions and even hold a season pass for Shea's Performing Arts Theatre, so I came in with genuine enthusiasm and high expectations. Unfortunately, this show was unlike anything ! have ever experienced —and not in a good way.
What I encountered was not the artistry, music, or emotional storytelling I usually associate with Broadway, but instead what felt like an endless cycle of nonsensical conversation between characters who seemed trapped in their own madness. I tried-truly tried-to find meaning, symbolism, or even a thread of emotional resonance. I stayed through the first half hoping the second would offer clarity. But by intermission, it was clear: this was a waste of both time and money.
Keanu Reeves is an actor I respect greatly, but I cannot fathom why he would agree to participate in such a disjointed, inaccessible production. His talent was lost in a performance that defied reason rather than provoked insight.
To anyone considering attending: unless you are drawn to highly abstract, nearly incomprehensible theater, I strongly caution you against this show. For the average, educated, thoughtful theatergoer, it is far more frustrating than fulfilling. In my opinion, this was the single most disappointing Broadway experience I've ever had - an unfortunate waste of money and, more importantly, of time.

Yes! You can't be playing in silence or generic tunes.

There is little more pleasing in this life than making a themed playlist for board game night

There's an old saying. Give an artist a grant to put on neoclassical Hamlet in the woods, and the artist will eat for a day. Teach an artist how to scale and translate their neoclassical Hamlet to a global audience? That artist will fish forever. Or whatever.

Publishers are the last to receive any interest from arts bodies, despite CLEARLY being the bottleneck pretty much everywhere.

What's stopping that potentially-amazing thing from happening? THE LACK OF PUBLISHERS (or the equivalent role in any given industry).

In every artistic field, there's no shortage of creativity. You can reliably throw a rock in fiction, film, games, theatre - whatever - and hit a creative person who has created something that could be amazing.

Honestly on the subject of arts grants I have a bit of a rant. But it boils down to:
give
money
to
publishers

Giving a little bit of money so artists can stop worrying about their rent and focus on their craft is such a no-brainer. It will absolutely net benefit everyone.

As usual, though, these programs never reach (a) games or (b) publishers. But hell yeah give artists money.

Damn. This is amazing. £325 per week, paid monthly, for 3 years - and the result was a profit for the Irish economy:

Post from Threads user rodneyowl: "Ireland has declared the Basic Income for Artists scheme permanent. This will be officially announced in tomorrow’s budget. Details to follow. Congratulations to all who fought for it and the present and future artists of all sorts in Ireland. That includes me 👌We’re just comin to the end of a 3 year pilot scheme. It’s been a roaring success. For every €1 paid out to the 2000 participants, the government got €1.46 back. Can’t argue with that. Other countries are already taking note."

Artwork used internally at DIC Entertainment during the production of the Super Mario World cartoon, replacing Marge Simpson with Mario. According to a former DIC employee, this was made due to an inside joke at the studio, though the exact nature of the joke has been lost.

Reaching across the political divide by conceding we can all agree, surely, that massive deportation operations should be conducted with correct paperwork.

What do we want?
Massive deportation operations.
How do we want it?
With impossible precision.

Even if you support massive deportation operations, under no circumstances should ANYONE be ok with US citizens being forcibly removed from their homes and detained without explanation.

This is a clear violation of their constitutional rights and should universally condemned.
