There is nothing I have ever wanted -- money, justice, health care, education, housing -- in my 65 years on this planet that would come at the expense of my neighbor's humanity.

That's my TED talk.

The @theatlantic.com accused Canadians of "treachery" because Global TV aired the documentary on Trump's crimes.
Fascism doesn't just happen, it is made possible because of the complicity of the media and intellectual class.
Canada isn't treacherous. We have backbone.

THREAD 🧵On November 14, 1960 six-year-old Ruby Bridges was escorted by federal marshals in order to integrate an all-white elementary school in New Orleans, LA. This was done in the wake of SCOTUS Brown v. Board decision that mandated integrated schools.

Who was Ruby Bridges?

Glad you asked.

Beautiful drone video of

St John’s Battery, Newfoundland

Known as Jellybean Row, the houses were painted bright colours so the sailors could use them as landmarks in thick fog as well as allowing them to pick out their homes from the sea

…plus it looks so cheerful!

I can’t believe how much of the Trump era is about solving problems that *don’t* exist while making all the problems that *do* exist, worse.

There is no one who thinks the biggest problem with air travel right now is not having an area to do pull-ups.
Duffy on what he's doing to improve the airport experience for travelers: "Maybe I want a workout area where people might get some blood flowing doing some pull ups or step ups in the airport."

TIL about a memorial ceremony in Iceland in 2019 to mark the end of a glacier, changing the place name from Okjökull to Ok (jökull = glacier). Uncompromising wording on the bronze plaque:
"This is to acknowledge that we know what is happening and what needs to be done. Only you know if we did it".

My dad abhors any negative comments about immigrants. Asked him recently why he’s so strong on it: ‘Because we’re always happy to take the rich and clever ones. Which means it’s not about disliking immigrants. It’s about disliking the poor and vulnerable. And that’s a bad human instinct.’
This is so disgusting.

Using the voters list as a political weapon against a constituent feels like perfectly reasonable grounds for a recall to me.
Dale Nally's recall petitioner says he doesn't listen to constituents and cites his concerns over the notwithstanding clause.

Nally responds by saying the petitioner doesn't vote and works as a proxy for a group weaponizing the recall act and the petition has no merit.

It's not even a morality issue---it's an equity issue.

In essence, about half the student body has to manage the prospect that approaching the professor for help, professional advice, guidance, or feedback is going to go sideways.

Women in his classes are not getting the same class.
I know that at this point it's a subplot in the Epstein files drama, but I feel compelled to point out, once again, that Larry Summers HAS NO BUSINESS teaching students at ANY university ever again!
