One of the more interesting facts about the so-called #GlobalMiddleAges is that, while East Asian historians often use an emic framework of ca. 200–1000 for the medieval (zhonggu 中古), Western GMA folks insist on a Eurocentric "medieval millennium" of 500–1500. #periodisation

Ppl are claiming that the Chinese name for 'Israel' means 'racism.' Indeed, the Yiselie 以色列 could be superficially parsed as "classify 列 according to 以 colour 色". But of course, the choice is purely phonetic - it's attested since 1838 in Karl Gützlaff's 古今萬國綱鑑 1/

Légende : Frêle mais ingénieuse grenouille dans « La Grenouille et les oies ». 1) Trois grenouilles rencontrent des oies sur le chemin de leur promenade printanière : « Les amuse-bouche sont servis ! », s’exclament les oies ; 2) Les grenouilles, poursuivies par les oies, s’enfuient ; 3) Parvenues au bord de l’eau, les oies ne craignent pas de nager pour continuer leur chasse ; 4) La grenouille rencontre un banc de têtards qu’elle enjoint à la venger des oies malfaisantes ; 5) Les têtards forment la tête d’un chat, effrayant les poursuivantes mises en déroute : « les oies s’enfuient !
