If any elected official who has taken an oath to protect and defend the Constitution doesn’t know this, they should resign.
Van Hollen on Fox News Sunday: "My whole point here is if you deprive one man of his constitutional rights, you threaten the constitutional rights of everybody ... if you threaten the rule of law for one person, you threaten if for everybody in America."

I’m going to be honest, I am already tired of hearing about the lunacy of the incoming administration. Every new stupid, awful, cruel, malicious, shitty thing just makes me fucking despair more. I’m not saying I want to tune out and pretend it’s not happening, but I also hate that it’s constant.

I came onto Bluesky an hour ago, and the first two things I saw were posts providing useful context for understanding the imposition of martial law in South Korea—the exact kind of thing that Twitter used to be so useful for in a developing crisis.

I would like a list of conservative ideas that The Global and Mail thinks are 1) edifying and horizon-expanding; 2) something I haven't heard before. Is it the slurs? The taunts? The accusations-as-confession? The recriminations? The threats of sexual and other violence against me and/or others?
Opinion - The problem with Bluesky: It won’t broaden our horizons: In the wake of Donald Trump’s election win, the social-media platform has enjoyed a surge of new users looking for an alternative to Elon Musk’s X. But will it be useful, if it just creates an echo chamber for the left?

I met some of these extremely tiny naked orange cats in the woods today. Please do not pick them up! Their skin is very porous and it can harm them to absorb oils, salt, bug spray, sunscreen, etc. from our hands! 🦎

As society becomes ever more prosperous it should have more and more collective time and effort to spend on making art and things of beauty

Some reduce the 2024 campaign to a contest between two old men, but it's a choice of two slates of federal appointees who'll impact your life in a million ways.

Biden has staffed executive agencies with excellent choices who are doing good work. Trump will empower an army of Stephen Millers.
Under current law, you really couldn’t do much better than Biden’s FTC and NRLB. New Deal shit.

you can make good moral arguments against the existence of billionaires, but to me this story illustrates the most compelling one: it is simply too dangerous for society as a whole for people like this to have the resources to impose their will on everyone else

This is going to sound more flip than I mean it, but when I was a kid I watched the Blues Brothers running Illinois Nazis off a bridge and the Nazis on Hogan's Heroes being pathetic dimwits every damn day, and I do feel like we need to get back to constant, vicious cultural ridicule of open racists.
