The dems probably mesh best onto the German greens, socially liberal, moderate but effective focal policy (my comparison here is state level in both countries)

On a Eurostar rammed with incredibly excited Americans, and I have been fighting myself not to say “Of course it must be amazing to be on a train, you don’t have any over there!”

Most of the advice you get is bad. Most of your instincts are bad. I however used to work for a health insurance company and I do arithmetic for a living so I can help.

Personally I think it's great that my company's HR sends out an official looking tool where they even ask you to pre-populate your healthcare providers and instead of being the actual insurance enrollment process it's just some bullshit checklist to try and convince me I actually don't want a PPO

In germany you have a very strong rental lock in effect because of tight rent controls for existing tenants. It wouldn’t surprise me if nyc had a similar thing esp with the larger units

One of the things that Germany does it for the most part not having LED displays at public transit. The information is very clear and stands out from the rest of the environment in a way Toronto/montreals ad filled screens don’t

I see pieces like this a lot, often w/ a spin of lamenting cultural degeneration, but reading is a LABOR issue, it’s declined because so many people are working overtime or two jobs & employers expect after hours work. France has Earth’s highest reading rate b/c long lunch breaks & labor protections
