“We are living through fascism and the primary way we connect with and inform and organize w/ each other is under lethal attack.

No one is coming to protect the internet for us, and people won’t even have a clue how catastrophic this can become until it’s over” @kattenbarge.bsky.social
Is anyone going to defend free speech online?
Government censorship on social media is already here. But it can get so much worse.

Stop boosting these stupid, poorly drafted state laws claiming to "protect child influencers." They're not going to do shit to "protect child influencers," they're about censoring journalism and free speech, and making it harder for young people to have a voice online and in our political system.
This new 'child influencer' law is bad and dangerous

People need to understand that, in mainstream Western institutions, “good economics” does not mean what’s best for meeting the needs of working people, but what’s best for ensuring capital accumulation and imperial hegemony. That’s it.

I almost bought a book on Amazon today, but then I went to eBay and got it slightly used for half the price. Boycotting Amazon is fun AND easy.

But it may not go well if you just shut them in and call it a day, you need to commit to giving them an enriched indoor environment with lots of play. felineengineering.com/blog/indoor-...

Wherever possible please buy your books directly from authors and/or publishers. Even ebooks (then Amazon can't delete them either). We make a better cut and you get the same thing or better, plus Bezos and ilk don't get richer. Win win win.

As usual, the entire premise here is false. Left-leaning people talk constantly about how to improve government programs. Meanwhile, conservatives are not 'talking seriously' about improving efficiency, they are attempting to gut government services en masse.

We are about to enter an era of extreme and dangerous culture war in the United States. How do we protect our communities and work toward a cultural ceasefire? In this piece I wrote a couple months ago, I offer one possible path. wapo.st/40q1BDn
Opinion | Libraries can help end the culture wars. That’s why they’re under fire.
Nothing threatens authoritarianism like a free, quiet place to absorb a full range of information.
