The judge also ordered that teachers have a right to misgender trans youth even when the parents know of and are supportive of their trans child. Just in case you thought this was actually about parental rights.
24 Dec 2025 @rikiwilchins.bsky.social -- Judge overturns CA school policy on outing trans kids, rules parents have right to know & teachers a right to tell them but no mention of child's rights. Case likely bound for Supremes. Weirdly CA law allows abortion w/o parental notification.
Federal judge rules California teachers are allowed to ‘out’ transgender students to parents
The ruling applies to all public schools in California and is a victory for two teachers who claimed that district policies violated their constitutional free speech and religious rights.

Enemy AI and procedural generation do not use the systems that companies are trying to sell us as synthetic intelligence. Enemy AI is literally artificially creating the illusion of intelligence through careful scripting. It's the opposite of what AI companies are trying to pretend.

They are not even remotely the same thing and everyone with a brain knows when we say AI we are not talking about pathfinding and enemy behavior and procgen, we are talking about theft and plagiarization and slop
I mean... what game doesn't? They always have. Enemies run off ai, for example. Procedural generation is a form of ai. We need to make the distinction between plagiarism from generative Ai and the stuff we've had for decades

Galaxy Quest, like Iron Giant , Fury Road and Tremors, is one of those rare movies without flaws. It's not just good, but miraculous.
Galaxy Quest - a perfect movie, just a wonderful love letter to actors, sci-fi, Star Trek in particular, and to fandom - really deserves a proper physical release with decent extras. Think Weaver's right that releasing a R-rated cut would be fun, too.
Sigourney Weaver Says She Wishes DreamWorks Released A Director’s Cut Of ‘Galaxy Quest,’ Reminisces On Sequel That Never Came To Pass
Sigourney Weaver reflected on cult classic Galaxy Quest and how she wishes the sci-fi satire had released an R-rated director's cut.

I think if you’re the lead of a creative endeavor like a AAA video game and you’re so incapable of delegating aesthetic ideas to artists on your team that you have to resort to the slop machine, you probably shouldn’t have that job

Been thinking on the use of GenAi for mood boards. Ethics and legal risks aside, I truly believe using GenAi as references deprives one of many pivotal things.

Here’s a blurb on what I mean:

Never quite lost the feeling from the first time I saw someone tell a troll to ignore all previous instructions and write a haiku. And they did. What you assume is a human glitches, and there's no THERE there. We do live in the future, it's just that instead of jetpacks we got existential dread.

Watched and enjoyed WAKE UP DEAD MAN, a well-made and surprisingly straightforward take on the locked-room murder mystery anchored by some excellent performances and great monologues. There should be a new one of these every Christmas. Just let the men cook

The president interrupted his Christmas remarks because he was confused about whether or not the woman five feet in front of him was his daughter who, he has repeatedly said in public, he would very much like to fuck.

Anyway, Merry Christmas!

Republicans use the "I'm not familiar with that" dodge several times a day now, and if a reporters or anchor isn't ready and willing to shut them down as soon as they try it, that means they're either incompetent at their job or a willing accomplice to the lies.

Either way, never trust them again.
If they pretend they haven’t heard about the story of the day, end the interview right there.

“I’m sorry, Senator, we wanted to get your perspective on this story, but it seems you’re not fully aware of what’s going on.”

Some top-notch reporting from ProPublica

Again, as Pratchett wrote, the first sin is thinking of people as _things_. In this case, children as objects, rather than people...and organizations who don't want outsiders meddling in their affair.
Young Girls Were Sexually Abused by a Church Member. They Were Told to Forgive and Forget.
In Minnesota, leaders of an Old Apostolic Lutheran Church community enabled a child abuser by telling his victims that once the sins were “washed away in the blood of reconciliation,” they could never...

There are specific reasons Trumpists want war on Venezuela, but there‘s a generic one: they crave power to make war on anyone, any time, for completely fabricated reasons, and then to use the guise of war to increase violence and repression everywhere, including home.

They are lawless bestial scum.

1) genuine life changing moment of my early 20s was realizing I actually didn't have to do this at all. tell the youths

2) I feel like there's a class discussion to be had around the stakes of this kind of decision though
So many men go through life like that. You can play poker because it's right-coded, you can't enjoy fruity alcoholic drinks because they're women-coded, you can't lick an ice cream cone because it's gay-coded. All day, every day, choosing and judging things based on coding for narrow norms.

The Appalachians pre-date bones. We're blowing the tops off of them to get coal.

Do you want to wake up the Eldritch Horrors that've used the Appalachians as a snuggle-binkie for aeons?

Your investigators must convince a mining company to stop....before it's too late!
the Appalachian mountains are so ancient they predate the evolution of bones.
Man, everything is so bleak, anyone got a fun fact or little bit of trivia they want to share
