I would very much like to thank @themountaingoats.bsky.social for playing "International Small Arms Traffic Blues" yesterday at the Baltimore show. Was I singing it while I was getting ready? Yes. Was it played to my husband's shock and delight? Yes. Was it on the official set list? No!

I don't think most Americans realize how hard tariffs are about to hit them. The combination of 1) escalating tariffs, 2) companies slowly passing the cost to consumers, and 3) the repeal of the de minimis exemption in the Big Beautiful Bill, a lot stuff will be more expensive in 2027.

Unironically they should buy up the domains for about 60 defunct local newspapers in swing states. Hire two reporters to write almost exclusively about highschool sports and new restaurants opening with every 10th article about how the local GOP is screwing over people.

This is a deeply-satisfying piece of journalism and it will live rent-free in my head for quite a while.
What I appreciate here is that the FT scored a video interview with Sam Altman (a high profile get!) for a conceit where he makes lunch and then another FT writer just ruthlessly savages his kitchen appliances and cooking techniques. www.ft.com/content/b180...

Car Smashes Into Billy Corgan’s Tea Shop For The Second Time In Six Months
On the 1998 Smashing Pumpkins song “Ava Adore,” Billy Corgan sings this line: “In you, I crash cars.” People probably shouldn’t take that so literally. Famously, Corgan is the owner of Madame Zuzu’s, ...

Something I first learned from Sweet Liberty Drinks & Supply in South Beach, Miami: always garnish your caramelized onion dip with caviar. Personally, I love some wild salmon roe. 🍜

Denver's Union Station is literally one of the prettiest in the country, and that neon sign is so gorgeous. "Travel by Train" absolutely sends me and I love it so much.

Made pickled strawberries from #withlovemeghan last weekend, and after trying a few martini variations with the strawberry-infused brine, my current favorite uses gin and sweet vermouth. Springtime in a glass!

Made a new-to-me recipe tonight that kind of blew my mind: almond tortellini made with a filling of almonds and cooked-down Aborio rice instead of ricotta. They're finished in a simple butter sauce, and it all worked pretty brilliantly. 🍜

Shannon has been a wonderful mentor, friend, and collaborator with my BIL on his journey as a ceramicist, and it's awesome she's getting more national attention. Definitely check out YOWIE (it's gorgeous) on South Street and you'll be supporting her small business as well as those of many artisans!

I was laid off from a really cool analyst job in early September 2008. It took the entire unemployment stint to get another job, and during that time my bathroom and bedroom ceilings broke because of poor building management.

Imagine if tech companies could convince you that AI knows you better than you know yourself, make you trust it unfailingly. Imagine that the VC ghouls who built them could, say, unload failing real estate they bought in AZ by having your AI suggest you move there. Wouldn't that be cool for them?
