I shall be posting this with a sigh
Somewhere ages and ages hence:
Two posts diverged on my screen, and I—
I took the bait, I hit reply,
And that has made zero difference.

“But the wait times”, I hear the detractors of nationalised health schemes say, as I snag an appointment for a doctor at the earliest available time which is 9 months in the future.

Yes: "Sitting in these sessions isn’t just about awareness. It’s about understanding how belief takes shape, how trust is built, and how we might begin to earn it back."

building housing near where people work and hang out is climate action. helping people fix up their houses is climate action. deploying public transit is climate action. making downtowns more useful and accessible and fun is climate action. etc.

One of the lessons I think we’re gonna miss looking at the macro trends: if you’re running for office somewhere, it really helps to be completely in love with that place

Meanwhile, the smart play electorally for Dems remains what it has been for my entire life - find a standard-bearer with some fucking charisma, and turn her/him loose to savage the other side in a way that people find hopeful. Throwing trans people under the bus is no part of a winning strategy.

One small thing you can do to help fight the starvation and violence, support those inside Israel who are showing up in person day to fight for an end to the war.
We’re so close to our goal – and you can push us over the line. Especially now, in such a difficult moment, we’re acting and creating the hope we need. But we can’t do it alone. Donate: omdi.me/thefight4life (1/2)

phil scott turned over snap information because he is a republican and agrees with hassling snap recipients, just like how he is a republican who doesn't believe in housing the homeless and how he is a republican who wants to help other republicans regardless of sanity get elected #vtpoli

Even if Hamas is in hospitals, you don't bomb hospitals.

Even if Hamas steals aid, you don't stop or slow aid.

Even if Hamas is evil, you don't punish Gazans.

Even if October 7th was the worst moment for Jews since the Holocaust, you don't commit a genocide.

I get why it's unsettling - you've just passed through 20 years of the largest generation in history responding to everything they dislike with either stream-of-consciousness babble or a 5000-word thinkpiece - but you HAVE seen this "Gen Z" stare before if you're over 40.

I am heartbroken by the news from Colorado where Karen Diamond, a victim of the vicious attack earlier this month, has passed away.

May Karen’s memory be a blessing and a reminder that we must constantly work to eradicate hatred and violence.

OK, since the "Globalize the Intifada" thing is coming up again, and I've seen Mamdani's comments on it, I'm going to try to explain why the "it's no big deal and nobody should find it threatening" approach is a bad one and should be rejected by people of good faith (which, IMO, includes Mamdani!)
