Lots of new people here so I thought I'd reintroduce myself! Welcome everyone 💙

I'm Marissa, an illustrator who loves painting fantasy, nature, and cute animals 🐥🌱✨
Digital illustration of a scene from Lord of the Rings with Frodo and Gandalf as birds. Gandalf, a snowy owl, is wearing a wizard hat and robes and is driving a wooden cart through the Shire. Frodo, a yellow baby chick, is seated next to Gandalf and is looking up at him. Digital illustration of a purple, pink, and orange sunrise over a lake with silhouetted hills on the horizon line. The clouds form a large white rabbit laying in a loaf position above the sun. Digital illustration of a white duckling, inspired by Quaxly from Pokémon Scarlet and Violet, swimming on blue water. A wave swirls around him, creating what resembles a pompadour of water on top of his head. Digital illustration of Wirt from Over the Garden Wall, except he is a bluebird. He is wearing a cone shaped red hat and a dark blue cape, and is holding up a glowing lantern with his wing.

It’s really hard to describe to people who are not artists how survival mode does *not* inspire creativity, as the myth would have us believe. It suppresses creativity as you try to limit every possible risk – and the opportunities that come with them.

It turns out building habits and stuff actually requires not being in survival mode, who knew?!
(Yeah yeah I did)

Lore. Apologies in advance, english is not my first language 😂 I added Alt text of the text in the images and some descriptors.
Title: Athrathrao (REDACTED)
Subtitle 1: Anthrathrao's egg. Description: Small and round compared to an average chicken egg. Has a rough texture on it's surface and a pale gray coloration. This egg is always laid under a house, causing the subsequent curse. The flock's rooster will attack, and some times kill, the hen that laid the Basilisk's egg and incubate it instead.

Subtitle 2: Hatchling. Description: Hatches like a normal chicken, breaking the egg's shell with it's beak. A fetid, black and dense substance pours out as the basilisk breaks through the shell. Another oddity is the incubation period, longer than a normal chicken, 30 to 31 days. It's believed that is the last laid egg from a hen, before natural death, that could be a basilisk's. In laboratory tests, with at least 100 chickens, for over a year, we haven't been able to get even one basilisk egg in our controlled trial environment, which consists of an authentic southern home, a chicken flock and scientists volunteering to live in the trial space. Other environmental causes may be necessary for it's production. This sample was observed and taken into custody by a U.A.T.P field team sent to (REDACTED). A local family contacted us with suspicions of it's presence, that resulted to be true. More information in the full report by our field agents. Title: Athrathrao (REDACTED)
Subtitle 1: Adult. Description: Seems to be a mix between a southamerican iguana, a rooster and a snake. It's length can be a little over 1 meter. Presents a common bright red cockscomb, light brown feathers, the typical gray an vibrant green coloration of a common Iguana combined with brown colors and spotted pattern of a REDACTED slender snake.

Subtitle 2: Observed Behavior. Description: If the egg is not found and destroyed before hatching, it's almost certain death for the cursed family or family member affected, in some rare documented cases, people have lived for long periods of time afflicted by this creature.
Athrathrao not only is venomous but also feeds on the inhabitant's saliva and breath (also referred as soul or vital energy), there's only one instance captured on film of this creature feeding while the human was asleep, captured by one of our field agent's, the case resulted, sadly, in a fatality.
The only effective way to get rid of this creature is to burn the egg or in extreme cases, the house the basilisk is affecting. In some instances a Machi is able to expulse the creature and the curse, but it only ends affecting another household. Title: Athrathrao (REDACTED)

Subtitle: Documented life cycle of a Basilisk.

Description: There's no register of a natural cause of death, it has only been killed with fire, either in Egg stage by rapidly burning it when found, or in Adulthood, by burning the home it plagues. No remains of the creature are ever found by locals.

Pyramid/tringle type of graphic showing the life cycle, on top the illustration of eggs, arrow points down right to the illustration of the hatchling, arrow points left to the illustration of the adult.

don't compare yourself to other people or where you think you should be or where you wish you were or even to you before it happened. it's only useful to compare yourself to where you were when you were at your lowest imo. every episode is a hard reset on Everything, so don't beat yourself up 🤝

It can be incredibly hard to see your progress when recovering from depression or burnout. The whole world keeps demanding certain benchmarks of you to the point that it’s easy to feel like a failure despite your hard work. Remember your progress is your own journey. Every win means something.

Found this on the AO3 subreddit, and I'm about to let it change my whole life (or at least work really hard to internalize it wrt my writing).
Someone's screenshot of a two-post twitter thread, from user blue (@bluewmist):

the fastest way to kill motivation is to make your identity depend on the outcome. it's called ego involvement. when failing becomes failing as a person, your brain starts avoiding the whole thing. not because you don't care, but because you care too much.

you don't need lower standards. you need less self-worth tangled up in your goals. the work gets easier when it's not about proving who you are.

Whipping out the Pillars of Creation again because it makes me happy

(artistic interpretation based on a combination of Hubble and James Webb imaging)

a digital painting showing the famous Hubble/James Webb image of the Pillars of Creation nebula, with its three tall fingers. the image has been heavily abstracted to be a collection of lines and polygons, and the colors have been saturated, such that it contains strong blues, yellows, and pinks. dots of stars can be seen throughout
