Housing First IS evidence-based and IS the best practice. Harm Reduction saves lives.

This EO will kill people. Anyone in #housing should be infuriated right now. If you are a #socialworker or work for #communitymentalhealth you should be infuriated. This Is a declaration of war on the homeless.

I am grieving the barbarism that is going to unfurl from all this. People are going to die. Livelihoods gone. All to feed a corrupt kleptocracy.

I see every day up close how different it is from the first time around. There are no guardrails. A disaster. I’m sorry we have to live through this.

There have been times in my adult life that I have felt less protected by institutions (see: Trump 1, living in GA under Dobbs). 2025 is the first time that I'm 100% sure that we are ALL substantially less safe because apparently there is now a "we love measles and hate cancer research" coalition

This is just one of the most direct ways Trump's plans will contribute to skyrocketing homelessness. And with homelessness being criminalized the homeless are going to be rounded up for incarceration doing slave labor.
The Trump admin is weighing (legally) unilaterally cutting Section 8 housing & select other funds.

Because of how far into the fiscal year we are, this’d be an immediate 30% cut to Section 8 and would kick more than 2 million people out of their homes.

Boring technical thread to follow explaining.

The cruelty is the point. The striping of people’s essentials is the point.
The Social Security Administration said that people who wanted to file for benefits or change the bank where their payments are deposited could no longer do so by phone and must first verify their identity online or go into a field office.
Social Security Will Require Online or In Person Identity Checks
The new rule would require people who want to make changes to first verify their identity online or in person.

Trump's Social Security Administration commissioner just called for a 50% staff reduction.

This would gut SSA field offices and make it harder for millions of seniors to access benefits.

This vote was to start the process of the cuts. It WILL come back for a final vote.

There are some chances to slow or potentially stop it. Need constant pressure on GOP

Focus on GOP swing seats & key committees. Energy & Commerce is where the Medicaid fight will go down. Ways&Means for tax fight.

Please explain what just happened. Is there no way to stop this w the reconciliation to be used by GOP to get around the filibuster? Are we sunk?
