2/3 2) I wish there weren’t so many books that most people would already be familiar with that don’t need promotion. 3) There are not enough more recently published books in this list. There are AMAZING authors and illustrators creating now and they should be celebrated and shared.

My mom shared this article w/me and I, a professional early literacy librarian, have thoughts. 1) not all of these are developmentally appropriate for toddlers (although good books). www.nytimes.com/2025/10/01/b... 1/3

Random thoughts: all those little cafes and cute gift shops named __&__ often have the same syllable emphasis - first and last. And the first word has two syllables. Example: Olive & Finch. Rosehip & Fern. Petrol & Gas. Two of those are not real places.

A little boy on the tube is so worried about his soft-toy lion falling on the floor that he is saying to him 'Hold on tight Sycamore Jones!'

Art by Simon Heath. Words by me.
An orange background with the words in white, and a black and white drawing of a lion.

Is it weird that I’m listening to my toddler rave playlist in the car… by myself? Nary a toddler in sight.

Hooray! Hooray! It’s Eugenia Wang’s Book birthday, and that’s NOT bad luck for you! Congratulations @zombicatures.bsky.social on your debut graphic novel! Everyone go get it; it’s amazing!
The cover of the graphic novel The Many Misfortunes of Eugenia Wang written by Stan Yan. A Chinese-American girl hangs clinging to a rope in the center of what appears to be a fiery pit/ on either side we can see ghostly figures

Strangely, a half-inflated swimming pool is NOT the strangest thing I’ve hauled in my car for work.
Photograph looking in the back window of an SUV. Through the window we can see a plastic swimming pool lying over other things.

When I adopted my second cat, I changed her name from the one the shelter gave her to Beatrice. But sometimes I wish I had kept the original. Because imagine coming home to this sweet face and saying “oh, hi, Kevin.”

I adore my library families. Honestly, they are the biggest reason why I’m not completely burned out at my job. I want the world for them.

Everyone has collective amnesia about no child left behind. There is no phonics, only test prep.

The 400 richest Americans are now worth a record $6.6 trillion, after getting $1.2 trillion richer over the past year alone.

Meanwhile, the rest of the country is getting squeezed by tariffs and high prices for groceries, utilities, and health care.

The system is broken.
