A VPN ban is never going to happen, big business / banks use VPN’s extensively to secure literally anything going over the internet & for anyone connecting in to their networks.
Also various hybrid solutions exist like Apple private relay which routes all browser traffic via anonymised routers.

In a crowded field, this might be the stupidest and most unworkable tech policy I’ve heard lately.
The British government admits it is now monitoring VPNs use by UK residents. Regulator Ofcom has contracted with an AI-powered surveillance service to detect the number of citizens using VPNs to evade the Online Safety Act.

The UK tech minister has said a VPN ban is on the table.
Exclusive: Ofcom is monitoring VPNs following Online Safety Act. Here's how
Ignoring VPNs risks creating ineffective laws, but tracking them threatens people's privacy

Sickening rhetoric by Home Secretary. Denying access to human rights isn't "protecting the public". This is Labour further demonising those seeking asylum in language very reminiscent of the far right. Yes, some break the law, so should be prosecuted within the law. Removing rights is not the answer

I really hate it when scientists keep saying that “we need to rebuild trust in science,” because it implies that scientists are to blame for the mistrust rather than the millions of dollars of dark money that have funded political attacks on science in order to advance a far right agenda.

I suspect it’s because most certifications are worthless because they are aimed at maximizing revenue for the certification body rather than providing evidence that the person holding the certification has the competence to produce results.

This can be fixed if the method itself is sound.

You might have noticed that there's no Team Topologies certification. There's a reason for that.

Within the IT industry, certification programmes have gained a bad reputation, and we felt that creating yet another certification would only add to the confusion.

AI is killing the college essay as more professors ditch robot-written papers for in-class exams. So now even fewer students are being taught to write well (an energy intensive task!).

Students lose out, bc good writing = good thinking: a training of the brain towards structure, style & substance.
