I'm May, a #Toronto community builder and local foodie.

I've lived all across Ontario and on a northern remote reserve in Manitoba. Visited 9/10 provinces and a territory. I love this place that I call home.

Mastodon is more my jam, so I'll probably lurk more than engage.

"Urging Israel" to release Canadian citizens?

No.

This is a fucking declaration of war by the State of Israel on the entire world — and we’re sitting here doing nothing.

New episode of Sandy and Nora! We talk about the fascist takeover of CBS news and how Canada could be playing a role of information and truth defender in North America but instead, it can't, as our media has already longago been captured.

Episode 344 – Our Unfree Press
In this episode, Sandy and Nora talk about the Ellison project of money laundering through purchasing a blog for $150M to suck up even closer to the empire as the US collapses. And what does this all ...

When you hear speeches like this:
1° you gotta wonder if Carney is a quisling or no for attempting to negotiate with a fascist.
2° you'll understand quickly why trans U.S.ians are fleeing the U.S., migrating to Canada in fairly significant numbers, heck, even claiming asylum 3× more than last year.

Trump: "If we didn't win this election. If we had these people that were running that were ruining our country, destroying our country with their open borders and men playing in women's sports and transgender from everybody and windmills all over the place ... I'm not sure we'd even have a country."

It's all the proof we need to show that Bluesky is not decentralized, and that they can shut off the system any time they want, even if you build tools on top of it.

It costs money to know that rent in Hamilton is now almost double the minimum wage. If you have a few dollars to spare, consider donating to the @policyalternatives.ca, whose researchers help us understand the crushing weight of capitalist exploitation!

With the amount of pushback I was expecting like a tower or midrise… *at least* a multiplex???

It’s 5 single detached houses replacing a bungalow on a large lot and people are losing their marbles😭😭😭

Aurora never change
'It's not right': Aurora residents push back against infill development plan
More than 100 residents pack meeting about plans to demolish the existing bungalow on Heathwood Heights Drive and replace it with five single detached homes

It's remarkable hearing people in Canada talk about how the EV mandates are too much and how we can't get enough EVs on the roads while Euro countries are doing way better than us on adoption, and especially cold northern Euro countries.

I understand Jay's thinly veiled crash out on a human level — getting dogpiled sucks, and a lot of people act annoying as hell when they don't like something.

But also, all of this happened because BlueSky doesn't respond to good-faith criticism. We tried it and nobody felt heard or respected.

I used to go up to Northern Ontario for Christmas with my partner at the time. We always bought round trip train tickets, but we never took the train home because The Canadian was always 24-72 hours behind schedule.

Train is 1 hours 40 minutes late.

And it hasn’t even left Union station yet.

We need better passenger protection laws in Canada. For rail, for planes, for buses, for everything.

In a way I kind of miss Something Awful moderation sometimes (it was a beautiful day when BravestoftheLamps got permabanned not because he did anything wrong but because he was shitting up a half dozen threads at once and being a real annoying, condescending prick)
dragoncobolt.bsky.social
There's this thing in forum moderating where people can not technically violate the rules but you still nuke them because you *know* that they're using technicalities to dance around the law while making the place unsafe and unpleasent

Signal does that, but instead of trolling, it's genocide
pfrazee.com
There's the substance of the signal issue, and then there's the pattern of behavior that jay was responding to -- the constant, _constant_ off topic responses that make this tedious.

On the substance, it's really just that the guy didn't violate the ToS. I'm sorry, that's just it

Scientists Finally Reveal Biological Basis of Long COVID Brain Fog.

Patients with brain fog may have disrupted AMPA receptor (AMPAR) expression—key molecules for memory and learning. Imaging of Long COVID patients showed elevated AMPAR density tied to more severe cognitive impairment.
